The Colowyo Wildland Fire south of Craig is 100% contained. The brush fire started last Friday near Highway 13 and Moffat County Road 17. The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office says it burned 585 acres.
Jackson County Sheriff Jarrod Poley was recalled in a vote on June 17. He submitted his resignation to the Jackson County Commissioners, effective last Friday. Dustin Weber has been appointed as the new sheriff for Jackson County.
The statement from the commissioners added, “The Board and the Sheriff’s office are committed to a smooth and lawful transition of leadership. Law enforcement coverage will continue without interruption, and public safety remains our top priority during this time.”
Jarrod Poley was also a former officer with the Moffat County Sheriff’s office.

Rick DeVos died on June 8. DeVos was the former Ski School Director at Steamboat Resort, and Executive Director of Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club for 14 years. A Memorial Service is at 5 p.m. this Sunday, June 29, at Howelsen Hill. DeVos was 69.
A reconstruction project begins on Pine Grove Road in Steamboat Springs Monday, June 23. This is Phase 1, which will last through October. Improvements include roadway, pedestrian, and safety enhancements, new sidewalks, and a better bus stop, and improvements to drainage. Plan on delays in the area and taking an alternative route.

Work continues just west of Steamboat Springs at Downhill Drive and U.S. Highway 40. Concrete will be poured this week for the curb, gutter, and sidewalk on the southeast corner of the intersection, and prep work will be done on the northwest corner. The section of Downhill Drive will be closed for about four months but businesses there will remain open. The speed limit is 30 miles per hour and traffic is intermittently reduced to a single lane.

The Routt County Board of County Commissioners meets this morning. Mo Demorat has an update from Emergency Management. They’ll be recognizing and thanking Paula Gregory for her dedication and leadership of the Community Emergency Response Team.
