Chip McIntyre has been named the new sheriff for Moffat County.
“I’m honored to accept the appointment of sheriff of Moffat County, and I’m grateful to Sheriff Hume for his leadership and his confidence to recommend me to finish his term. KC has served this community with dedication for three decades and it is a privilege to continue that legacy. And I’m committed to ensuring a seamless transition and leading the sheriff’s office with integrity and service and continue focusing on the safety and well being of the citizens of Moffat County and it is truly an honor.”
Moffat County Board of County Commissioners made it official today with Resolution No. 2025-59 (below), saying, “Whereas, Undersheriff Chip McIntyre is a qualified elector and long-term resident of Moffat County, and has been a peace officer in Colorado for 30 years; and has served as Moffat County Undersheriff since June 19, 2023, and is well qualified to serve as sheriff based on his background, training, education, and experience…”
McIntyre has been in law enforcement since 1995, when he started as a Detention Deputy with the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office. He also worked with Colorado State Patrol and Grand Junction Police before rejoining the Moffat County Sheriff’s office in 2014 as a patrol deputy. McIntyre has been the undersheriff since 2023, serving under K.C. Hume who is retiring. (Picture of that swearing in is below.) McIntyre will be sworn in again by Sheriff Hume on July 2.
