The Craig Police officer involved in a shooting of a man with a gun in Craig on April 26 has been cleared by the district attorney in the 14th Judicial District. Sgt. Dalton Caudall was the officer involved. The man who was shot was 36-year-old Troy Wade Curtis from Craig.

An arrest warrant was issued for Curtis on July 11 and he turned himself in that day to the Moffat County Jail and was later released on $5000 PR bond with misdemeanor and felony charges. He has an appearance on bond Tuesday morning. The defendant is innocent until proven guilty.

The Yampa River is closed to recreation until further notice. This is due to high water temperatures of 75+ degrees over the past two days. The closure runs from the upstream boundary of Chuck Lewis State Wildlife area downstream to the west city limits of the City of Steamboat Springs.

Steamboat Springs City Council meets tonight. It starts at 5 p.m. at Centennial Hall, and also on Zoom.

Agenda

The Homeownership Pre-Screening Form for The Cottonwoods at Mid Valley has been released by Yampa Valley Housing Authority. Complete the form. If you are a prospective buyer and you meet basic eligibility requirements, you will be invited to complete the full application. Eligible applicants will then be invited to participate in a lottery for available units. The project has 86 one-, two-, and three-bedroom condos for purchase along the Core Trail, with a completion date expected in early 2026. These are deed restricted condos reserved for local workers and retirees.
