“You gave a generation of young people the confidence to succeed in life. Congratulations on your retirement, you’ve earned it, and you will always be a part of the Steamboat Springs High School family.”

That’s Steamboat Springs High School Athletic Director Luke Dewolfe, thanking Head Volleyball Coach Wendy Hall for 39 years of coaching, during a retirement ceremony at the high school Saturday.

Through occasional tears, Hall spoke of how everyone involved in the program has changed her life.

“Players, coaches, and families, and parents who continue to come back and support Sailor Volleyball. This is just an incredible ride. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

Different speakers from over the years praised Coach Hall during the ceremony. Dewolfe said she has been a cornerstone of the volleyball program. He listed the following accomplishments during her career:

  • State runner-up in 1998 and 2002
  • Eight state tournament appearances
  • Nineteen SSHS volleyball players have played collegiately
  • Three played international professional volleyball
  • A career record 575 wins and 298 losses
  • Coaching career wins of 575 is the 7th all-time in Colorado state history for all classifications
  • Career wins at one school of 575 – fifth of all time in Colorado
  • Years as head coach – 37 from 1989-2025 which is second of all time in Colorado and at one school
  • Wendy is the second volleyball coach ever at SSHS
  • In 2024, Coach Hall was inducted into the 2025 Colorado Coaches Hall of Fame
