Wednesday, Oct. 1, was a celebration at Casey’s Pond Senior Living Community, marking the one-year anniversary of the community-led effort to save Casey’s Pond. It was attended by staff and residents of Casey’s Pond, as well as elected officials and members of the community. Casey’s Pond is now run by Northwest Colorado Health, under the leadership of CEO Steph Einfeld.

“This is a story about how the community came together and rose up to save a very vital part of our community, and it is such a celebration. I’m so excited to be able to be standing here with all of these residents and staff and community members. It’s such an awesome example of what community can do, when they come together.”

Casey’s Pond was threatened with foreclosure and put into the receivership process just over a year ago. The community was able to raise $68 million in just a few months, from 751 donors, and Casey’s Pond stayed open. Now, there’s a waiting list to get in.

Northwest Colorado Health is launching a three-year campaign to raise $3 million to support the aging population in the region. Support has already come in from Memorial Regional Health in Craig, and UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs. Donations can be made through the Northwest Colorado Health website.

Because of decreased water flow from Stagecoach Reservoir, there is a mandatory fishing closure for .6 of a mile stretch of the Yampa River between the dam at Stagecoach State Park downstream to the park boundary. The closure goes into effect on Thursday, Oct. 2, and is expected to last through the spring. It’s too difficult on the fish when water flows are minimal.

More on the Story — Mamma Mia! is on stage at Steamboat Springs High School

It’s Homecoming Week for Hayden High School. Today the kids dress up as Tiger Pride. The Hayden Homecoming Parade leaves the school at 2:30 p.m. and after the parade, there is an all-district school picture.

Around 400 5th graders from Routt and Moffat counties spent the day at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden today for the 2025 Yampa Youth Water Festival. The day started with everyone in the stands at the fairgrounds, but no electricity because of a power outage in Hayden. But it didn’t last long, and the kids quickly dispersed to stations throughout the fairgrounds and at Dry Creek Park. They learned about water and the river, fish anatomy, agriculture, water safety, sandhill cranes and more. The event is presented each year by the Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District.

Many more pictures are on the SteamboatRadio Facebook Page and the KRAI & 55 Country Facebook Page.
