Three local families are off to Chicago this weekend to run in the Chicago Marathon. They’re on a team called Windy City Angels, which raises awareness and funds that help families affected by Angelman’s Syndrome, which is a rare condition. Four families in Routt County have a family member with the condition. The three racing teams are:
- Candy Granger and Sam Underhill
- Deanna and Dave McCurdy
- Xavier Knott and his mom, Ginger Johnston
Candy Granger will be pushing Sam on the 26.2 mile course through the streets of Chicago. The three families have collectively raised over $16,000 for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation.
From their website: “Angelman syndrome (AS) occurs in one in 15,000 live births or 500,000 people worldwide. People with Angelman syndrome suffer from debilitating seizures, sleep problems, complete loss of speech, walking and balance issues – to name a few.”
