Watch for road closures and travel delays starting Monday, Oct. 13, on the west side of Steamboat Springs. There will be paving Monday and Tuesday and striping the rest of the week. Downhill Drive is closed for paving but businesses are open. Paving at Highway 40 and Riverside Drive is Tuesday so those needing access to Riverside Drive should expect closures that could last up to 45 minutes. The new traffic signal at Downhill Drive and Highway 40 is expected to be turned on next Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Weekly Update; October 13-17, 2025

IMPORTANT NOTE: There will be road closures beginning Monday, October 13, please read the details below:

• Downhill Drive-Due to paving operations on US 40, Downhill Drive will be closed to traffic on Monday, October 13. Motorists wishing to access any of the businesses off Downhill Drive should use Radiator Road as an alternate route during the closure
• Riverside Drive-Paving at the intersection of Riverside Drive and US 40 will occur on Tuesday, October 14. Due to the nature of the paving operation, motorists needing access to Riverside Drive should anticipate intermittent closures lasting up to 45 minutes from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday.
• US 40-US 40 will be paved on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 13-14. Striping operations will follow paving on October 15-17. During paving, one lane in each direction will be open to traffic. Turn pockets will be closed so this could cause back-ups and delays.
• The new traffic signal at US 40 and Downhill Drive is expected to be turned on October 21.

 

Traffic Impacts:

• The speed limit will be reduced to 30 mph through the work zone. 12 foot width and 90 foot length restrictions are in effect.
• Business and resident access will remain open throughout the duration of construction with the potential for intermittent closures.
• There will be a full closure of Downhill Drive during the grading and reconstruction phase of the project.
