The Routt County Board of County Commissioners is meeting today. Public Comment is at 9:30 a.m. Lisa Popovich with Main Street Steamboat plans to speak, regarding the Santa House no longer being on the lawn at the Routt County Courthouse during the holiday season. She says she’ll be thanking commissioners for their continued partnership, and then ask whether the Santa House can be on the lawn at the courthouse for one more year, while Main Street Steamboat works on finding a more permanent home, starting next year. Agenda

 

The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners has a board meeting today. Agenda items include appointments to the Moffat County Fair Board, the proposed 2026 County Budget will be presented for adoption, and Jennifer Riley has an update from Memorial Regional Health.

 

Two or more members of the Moffat County Board of County Commissioners are participating in a ZOOM workshop today with C.H. Johnson Consulting, regarding the initial stages of the proposed Fairgrounds Event Center project.

 

Steamboat Springs City Council meets tonight. The Parks & Rec Commission and City Attorney have reports on the agenda.

Governor Polis has announced new board appointments. One re-appointment is Paul Bony of Steamboat Springs to the Community Access Enterprise. Bony will serve as a representative of a business or organization that supports electric alternatives to motor vehicles. Bony is with the Yampa Valley Sustainability Council. Another re-appointment is of Karen Wogsland of Steamboat Springs on the Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority. She’ll serve as a representative of the Yampa White Drainage Basin.

 

Paving and striping continues along Hwy 40 at Downhill Drive and Riverside Drive. That’s just west of Steamboat Springs. Be aware of delays.

 

The Moffat County School District has hired Bill Zenner as the new College and Career Coordinator at the high school. He’ll be helping the students with their college and career opportunities, along with scholarships, internships, the military and more.

 

The Moffat County School District is also looking to hire bus drivers for small and full-size buses for activities and sporting events. Call 970-826-6655.

 

Keep Bears Wild is hosting a talk about co-existing with bears in the Yampa Valley. It’s at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Christy Bubenheim will also have an update from the International Human-Bear Conflicts Workshop.

 

Open registration starts today and runs through the end of the month for the SBT GRVL p/b Wahoo 2026 event next June.

 

 You’re invited to learning about “The Cost of Poverty Experience,” or COPE. It’s an immersive simulation that gives a glimpse into the lives of low-income individuals and families in our community. The event is also hosted by the Health Partnership. It starts at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Steamboat Christian Center, and it includes lunch. A second event is at the same time on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Chamber of Commerce building in Craig.

Three Routt County families are headed home from running in the Chicago Marathon this past weekend. They were on a team called Windy City Angels, which raises awareness and funds that help families affected by Angelman’s Syndrome, which is a rare condition. Welcome back to Candy Granger and Sam Underhill, Deanna and Dave McCurdy, and Xavier Knott and his mom, Ginger Johnston. They all ran to raise money for the Angelman’s Syndrome Foundation. Johnston wrote, “The support from the crowd was intoxicating. It was a completely out-of-sorts experience to be encouraged by so many people during every step of the way and running this race for the ‘angels’ in our lives made it that much more meaningful for us all.”

The U.S. Alpine Ski Team has been announced for 2025-2026. Six alpine skiers are from Steamboat Springs. They are Jett Seymour on the B team, Logan and Tatum Grosdidier who compete for SSWSC on the Women’s C Team, and Jeremy Nolting, Jay Poulter, and Cooper Puckett on the Men’s C Team. The World Cup tour kicks off Oct. 25 in Austria with Giant Slalom. U.S. Athletes will be home competing at Copper Mountain Nov. 27-30, and then on Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek, Dec. 4-7. 2025-26 Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team Announced

 

The Steamboat Springs High School Girls Flag Football team has a home playoff game tonight. It’s at 4 p.m. vs. Regis Groff from Denver, at Gardner Field. Steamboat is ranked 14th and Regis Groff is 19th. CHSAA Flag Football 4A Bracket

 

The Moffat County Boys Soccer team has a home game against Grand Valley this afternoon in Craig.
