Spooktacular Halloween Event Strolls Downtown
Lincoln Avenue Closure Runs From 2pm to 8pm Friday Evening
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-October 22, 2025- Don’t get tricked by the traffic this Halloween! The Downtown Halloween Stroll takes over Lincoln Avenue on Friday, October 31, turning downtown into a treat-filled, family-friendly fright fest from 5-7 p.m. Road closures and detours begin at 2 p.m. and last until around 8 p.m.
For nearly 40 years, Steamboat Springs has celebrated Halloween with this community tradition, as local businesses and organizations line Lincoln Avenue to hand out goodies to costumed kids of all ages.
Participating entities, those stationed on the road, must contact Main Street Steamboat in advance for block assignments and venue access routes. Avoid being turned away or having delays in reaching your assigned space by reaching out early.
Vendor vehicles will be able to access Lincoln Ave via 7th Street between 3-4:45 p.m. After that, no vehicles, even those participating in the stroll, will be permitted onto Lincoln Avenue.
No parking signs will be put out in advance along side streets as well as one side of Yampa and Oak Streets. No parking signs on Lincoln Avenue will be put out by Main Street 24 hours in advance of the event. Vehicles left in no parking locations will be towed.
The road closure and detour will be set up starting at 2 p.m. and runs through approximately 8pm. Motorists will use a circular configuration that sees US40 eastbound traffic diverted onto Yampa St and US40 westbound traffic onto Oak St between 5th to 11th Streets. At the conclusion of the stroll, Lincoln Ave will reopen as soon as safely possible. Parking will be limited in the downtown area during the closures so consider biking, riding the Free Bus or carpooling.
The 5th Street Bridge will remain open to northbound traffic during the stroll. Vehicles accessing Howelsen Hill, the Ice Arena or Brooklyn neighborhood will be able to turn right from Yampa St to reach those venues. Westbound traffic on US40 will NOT be able to turn left on 5th Street to reach Howelsen Park but will need to follow circular detour route around. Motorists should consider using River Road for areas south of the river.
SST will again take advantage of the emergency lanes during the closure on Yampa and Oak Streets to keep buses rolling. Temporary bus stops for eastbound Steamboat Springs Transit (SST) routes will be on Oak at 10th, 9th, 7th & 6th. Westbound SST routes will use stops on 6th, 7th, 9th & 10th on Yampa St. Buses will return to normal operations when Lincoln Avenue/US40 reopens after the event.
In addition, extra buses will be running on both ends of town to assist getting people into and out of downtown. The westbound regional bus will come through town at approximately 4:40-5:40 p.m. with stops on Yampa at 7th and 11th Streets.
Families with children are encouraged to arrive at the beginning of the stroll. Parents should also consider bringing strollers or wagons for tired trick-or-treaters. A lost child/reunification area will be located at 7th & Lincoln and families are encouraged to talk to their kids about this meeting spot if separated.
With a high volume of pedestrians including many children, be patient, alert, and observe detours and closures. As it gets dark, motorists have a harder time seeing you, so be visible. In general, bring a flashlight/headlamp, wear reflective gear, use caution in crosswalks, do not dart across streets/alleys, eliminate distractions such as earbuds, texting, and cellphones, and assume you can’t be seen by others.
Bikers should use front and back lights and always wear a helmet. Halloween is scary for the friendliest of pets; leave your four-legged companions at home while you roam the costumed crowd downtown.
