Third graders at Steamboat Mountain School have been busy working on finding homes for pets at the Routt County Humane Society. They took a trip to see the animals and then wrote up radio ads to tell people about these prospective pets that need a home. Here’s a sampling of what a few of the kids say on the reports, which are all below.

The 15 students in the class have been working on the project since last month, with help from their teacher, Andrew Pontbriand, who sent this: “For their Writing for the Community unit, Steamboat Mountain School third graders explored how writing can be used to inform others and support their community. Each student was assigned a different pet at the Routt County Humane Society and wrote a pet adoption profile. Through their efforts — spreading the word to classmates and around town — many of their animals have already been adopted! Some of these animals are still looking for a forever home. Reach out to the Routt County Humane Society if you think you can help!”
The goal is to raise awareness for the local humane society, and inspire those in the community to visit the animals, volunteer, donate, or adopt a new pet.
All of those radio spots can be heard below. Pictures of the pets available can be seen on the Routt County Humane Society website at RouttHumane.org
