The snow is here. Steamboat Resort opens this Saturday, Nov. 22. One thing to think about is frozen pipes as the weather gets colder. The City of Steamboat Springs has sent reminders to disconnect your garden hose, insulate your pipes, let faucets drip and keep a consistent temperature.

Routt County Road and Bridge is doing some work at railroad crossings. County Road 33 will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the railroad crossing near County Road 27.

Slash pile burning of overgrown vegetation and dead trees will soon begin in the Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests in Colorado and Wyoming. It will be in the next few weeks and months, depending on the snow conditions.

Steamboat Springs City Council meets tonight. Agenda items include outgoing Council Member comments and the swearing in of new council members, as well as the selection of the President and President Pro Tem. That’s at 5 p.m. After that, Council will reconvene as the Liquor Authority and then Steamboat Springs Redevelopment Authority.

The community is invited to a STAND meeting tonight with the topic “Just a Symbol?” It’s to address hate symbols in Steamboat Springs. STAND is the acronym for Steamboat Team to Disrupt Antisemitism and Discrimination.

At the meeting, those in attendance will hear from local students, school leaders and regional partners about hate symbols and hate speech, the work already underway in our region, and how to move forward together as a community.

Special guest speakers will include Michael Dougherty, District Attorney of the 20th Judicial District (Boulder County), Jeremy Shaver, Senior Associate Regional Director of the Anti‑Defamation League – Mountain States Region; local high school and middle school student voices; and Rabbi Kolby Morris-Dahary.

The event is from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Steamboat Springs Middle School.

The Milner Mall at Apex Waste Solutions’ landfill is offering free shopping if you bring in a food donation to LiftUp of Routt County. It’s a one-for-one offer. Every food item donated gets you one mall item for free.

From Community Recycling Coordinator Alicia Archibald: “This is meeting two needs – getting food to the food bank for people in need, and clearing out the Milner Mall before the snow falls and ruins everything, thus potentially ending up in the landfill.”

The Milner Mall is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, at 20650 County Road 205. Call first to make an appointment to shop. The number is 970-879-6985.

The 31st Annual Festival of Trees is at Tread of Pioneers Museum, brought to you by Yampa Valley Bank. It runs through Nov. 29. The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, but won’t be open Thanksgiving Day.

In Craig, businesses and nonprofits are being invited to register for the Festival of Trees. This year’s theme is Wilderness Wonderland. All trees are part of a silent auction for the Craig Chamber of Commerce. Then the tree lighting ceremony is at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, right before the parade. The registration form is at the Craig Chamber.
