There is a proposal to sell the Browns Park School in northwestern Colorado, to Moffat County. It’s on 2.13 acres. It would be sold no less than fair market value. The school was inadvertently placed on public land in 1945. Students attended it from 1945 to 1991, and it is now used for events, like Wild Bunch Days in August.

The Bureau of Land Management is looking for public comment on the proposal. Any comments need to be submitted to the BLM Little Snake Field Office in Craig at 970-826-5000, before March 2.

Additional information and a map are available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option (preferred).

BLM seeks input on proposed sale of Browns Park School land

CRAIG, Colo. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on a proposal to sell 2.13 public acres to Moffat County at no less than fair market value to help preserve the historic Browns Park School in northwestern Colorado.

The school was inadvertently placed on public land in 1945. Students attended the school from 1945 until 1991, and now it is used as the area community center and for events in Moffat County such as the Wild Bunch Days in August.

“The Browns Park Alumni Association did an incredible job of preserving this school and using it as history intended, as a gathering place in the community,” said BLM Northwest District Manager Robert Swithers. “The BLM is proud to be part of placing this property in the hands of the local community.”

Additional information and a map are available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option (preferred). Comments may also be delivered to the BLM Little Snake Field Office, 455 Emerson Street, Craig, CO 81625. The comment period will close March 2, 2026.

For more information, please contact the Little Snake Field Office at 970-826-5000.

Federal Register Notice for this action is available online.
