The 113th Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival wrapped up Sunday after a weekend of horses, and donkey jumps, ski joring, giant ski races, fireworks, a drone show, the Diamond Hitch Parade, with happy kids and families, and visitors throughout the community. Thank you to city plow drivers for getting the snow out on Lincoln Ave., and to the Howelsen Hill snowmaking team for making enough snow for it to happen. Thank you to all at Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club for another successful Winter Carnival. Pictures are on our social media pages.

First Friday Artwalk Friday night featured a new artist with an exhibit at The Depot Art Center. It’s called “Changing Lenses” by Olympic Gold Medalist Deb Armstrong, who says she started painting during COVID and hasn’t stopped.

“I just had an idea that I wanted to try linoleum cut block prints. So I started with the Matterhorn because it is so iconic. And also to learn how to draw. There were just features that I could kind of copy and figure out.”

Armstrong also says she received help from Sue Oehme, with Oehme Graphics, who helped her fine tune her art.

Around 30 pieces of Armstrong’s art are on display at The Depot through the end of February.

Armstrong won a gold medal in Giant Slalom at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.

There is an outreach event with a tour of Deb Armstrong’s exhibit at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
