A 71-year-old woman died Thursday night, after a head-on crash on Highway 40, on the Jackson County side of Rabbit Ears Pass. Colorado State Patrol says the other driver was taken to the hospital. Rabbit Ears Pass was closed for several hours. We will update this when more information becomes available.

A Meadows Parking Lot shuttle bus driver was assaulted, allegedly by at least one passenger, in the Gondola Transit Center last weekend, at the base of Steamboat Resort. The police report says the passenger kept trying to turn up the music in the shuttle so the driver asked him to get off the shuttle. The passenger elbowed the shuttle driver in the face. A fight ensued outside the shuttle bus with possibly two passengers, while others on the bus got off to help the driver. That’s according to the report.

A private plane leaving Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden blew a tire during takeoff Thursday. Airport Director Tinneal Gerber there was smoke and flames by the Airport Aircraft Recue and Firefighting crew was able to put the fire out. No one was hurt. The main runway at the airport was closed for about two hours.

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is being shut down at the end of the day Friday for all services, so the statewide system can be upgraded. This is for drivers licenses and license plates. It will be back next Wednesday, or possibly late Tuesday. Routt and Moffat County DMV offices both say to expect some delays when offices reopen next week, as staff at the local DMV offices adjust to the new system.

The Steamboat Reading nonprofit has gone through a re-branding with a new name.
Executive Director Kim Schulz who is also co-founder of the group made the announcement Wednesday night.
“Our new name is now The Next Page Learning Center and we hope that it offers a feeling of progress and hope and we want kids to be able to say, ‘I go to the Next Page,’ as if they are already readers.”
The Next Page Learning Center serves students in Northwest Colorado, including Routt and Moffat counties, especially those with dyslexia and other learning challenges.
It started back in 2017 to provide high-quality reading instruction and parent education. Students are supported through scholarships.
The Mission Statement is: Empower children to overcome dyslexia and other learning challenges through individualized instruction, learning evaluations, and trusted advocacy, enabling every child to thrive.

Thirty-one VEX IQ Robotics teams from schools across Colorado are competing at South Routt Elementary School today in Yampa. These are 3rd through 8th graders. VEX IQ is based on plastic, snap-together pieces specifically designed to build highly functional robots.
A “Love Stinks,” Galentine’s Gathering is from 6-8 p.m. tonight (Friday, Feb. 13) at the Hayden Center in Hayden. It’s for those 18 and older. There’s a prize for the Worst Date Horror Story.

Nick Clark signed a Letter of Commitment Thursday to run track and cross country at Colorado Mesa University, and major in criminology. Clark had a photo finish for 2nd place at state in the 5K last November.

Paralympian and former Steamboat STARS instructor, Noah Elliott, is the overall LL1 Snowboard winner at the FIS Para Snowboard World Cup. The competition was at Steamboat Resort.
Lots of high school sports, the Moffat County Bulldog Basketball teams in Steamboat Springs tonight to take on the Sailors. The girls varsity game is at 5:30 p.m. and the boys are at 7 p.m.
The Steamboat Sailors Hockey team has 5:30 p.m. game against Aspen Friday night. Listen on KTYV 105.7 or watch through the Steamboat Radio YouTube channel. Then on Saturday, there is at 6:15 p.m. game against Caprock Academy. Both games are at Howelsen Ice Arena.
The Moffat County and Steamboat Sailors Boys Wrestling teams are at Regionals in Delta. The Sailors girls wrestling team is at a tournament at North Fork High School.
The Sailor Alpine Ski Team has a meet against Summit Friday at Keystone.
The Steamboat Nordic Ski team also has a meet against Summit at the Gold Run Nordic Center.
Hayden High School wrestlers are traveling to Cedaredge Friday for the Regional Wrestling Tournament.
The Hayden Basketball team has games against West Grand tonight, and then DeBeque at home, starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The SoRoCo Rams wrestling teams compete today. The girls are at Regionals at North Fork. The SoRoCo Boys wresting team is at regionals at Cedaredge today and Saturday.
SoRoCo basketball plays Plateau Valley Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs Basketball teams host Delta Saturday. The girls are at 1:30 p.m. and the boys are at 3 p.m.
The Moffat County Wrestling team is at Regionals in Hotchkiss.
