A man living in Steamboat Springs died at Steamboat Resort Saturday.

He has been identified as 25-year-old Jack McGrath, by the Routt County Coroner. Steamboat Resort Communications Director Maren Franciosi says the accident was off of Buddy’s Run on the mountain.

She added, “Our Ski Patrol responded immediately and provided life-saving care, but despite these efforts, the individual passed away. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their family, friends, and loved ones.”

Members of Steamboat Springs City Council say they were not involved, nor was the city, in developing or implementing Steamboat Resort’s paid parking plan for next season. Council President Steve Muntean will be meeting with city staff, representatives from Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. and Chamber Executive Director Sarah Leonard on April 13 about the potential impacts on the community. That letter is on our website.

There may be smoke today, south of Steamboat Springs. If not today, sometime this spring. The U.S. Forest Service is planning to do some prescribed burns in the Harrison Creek Drainage. That’s near Highway 40, on the western Routt National Forest Boundary of Rabbit Ears Pass. Smoke will be visible from Highways 40 and 131. There should be signage along the road. The public is being asked to not report the prescribed fire, as first responders and dispatch will be aware of the operations.

Yampa Valley Regional Airport is accepting donations to help support TSA agents, during the government shut down. TSA agents aren’t being paid. A Donation Drop-off is at the airport, for perishable or non-perishable items, plus retailer gift cards, like from grocery stories and gas stations. Cash and alcoholic beverages are not accepted. More information is on our website.

Street sweepers for the City of Steamboat Springs are out on the roads for the traditional spring clean-up.  They’re removing the scoria that has been exposed sooner, due to the warmer weather. Residents can help with the clean-up by raking or sweeping the scoria from their property onto the asphalt shoulder. Long, narrow rows are easier for sweepers to collect than big piles.

Also, residents are reminded that winter parking restrictions, including no overnight parking on city streets, remain in effect through April 30.

Another scam has been popping into phones this weekend. It looks official from the State of Colorado. It says it is a Notice of Default and Ernforcement Action Initiated for a parking violation. Don’t scan the QR Code or call the number on there because it’s just another scam where they want your money.

“I think that this event and ag is important because it stimulates the economy of our community. It’s also the history and the roots of our community that comes from ag and ranchers around the county. I also think that getting people out into the community and partnering with the downtown businesses helps to support their economic growth as well.”
