FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Moffat County School District announces Carly Morris as next MCHS principal

CRAIG, Colorado — Moffat County School District is pleased to announce the hiring of the next Moffat County High School Principal. Carly Morris, who most recently served as principal of Unalaska City School in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, will take the position this summer ahead of the 2026-27 school year.

Ms. Morris has served in educational capacities across the full spectrum of instruction, leadership, specializations, and administration, and brings international school experience as well as a deep academic background in the art and science of education to Craig and Moffat County. She holds master’s degrees in Educational Leadership and Special Education, and is experienced in creating learning spaces and opportunities that serve all kinds of students. She is also a dedicated collaborator and servant leader.

“I’m excited to come to Moffat County High School because of how much the school means to the community. It’s really one of the cornerstones of town,” Morris said. “Everybody I talked to while I was there had a story about graduating from MCHS or having kids who go there. It’s important to people. It’s an important part of this place, and I love to be in a place where education is important. I get a great feeling from the environment, especially the team at the school itself, which is really engaged in making school great for kids and teachers and families.”

Morris’s career has included a deep focus on aspects of education from Special Education to project-based learning, as well as developing curriculum and training instructors. She is a collaborative leader who looks forward to building upon the culture of Moffat County High School’s existing team.

“I love the arts, I love CTE, sports, and there’s just so much going on at Moffat County High School,” Morris said. “There are so many avenues for kids to learn here, and I’m really excited to be a part of that.”

Superintendent Dr. Mathew Neal is enthusiastic about the hire, expressing an expectation of growth for the high school under Morris’s leadership.

“Carly really stood out in our hiring process, even among a strong group of candidates,” Dr. Neal said. “Both our finalists were well-received throughout our robust interview process, but Ms. Morris was the clear standout. I really believe she’s the right leader for this school at this moment in time, and I’m excited to see her build on the positive momentum at Moffat County High School.”

Morris will join a team that includes interim principal Erika Miller, who will move back into her previous position as assistant principal, supporting the new leader and providing much-needed continuity.

“I’m looking forward to Carly stepping in and keeping us moving forward,” Miller said. “I’m proud of what we’ve been doing here as a team, but there’s always room to grow and move forward. I think this is a great opportunity for our staff and our students to get behind Ms. Morris and push toward the future. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together.”

Dr. Neal emphasized the significance of this hire for the school district and the community.

“Moffat County has one high school, and that makes the high school principal a really important figure in this community,” Dr. Neal said. “From sporting events to theater and the arts to CTE and especially to high school graduation every May, MCHS brings this community together in so many ways. The leader of this school has a big job, and I’m very pleased to have Carly taking it on. We’re already beginning our work together, and I’m excited for that to continue and grow.”
