The rodeo grounds at Howelsen Hill have been designated as a Local Landmark from the Historic Preservation Commission. This includes the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series and Brent A. Romick Arena. Rodeo competitions have been taking place there since 1898. The formal arena was established in 1927, with major improvements made in 1990. The designation from the Historic Preservation Commission happened at their meeting Monday night.
The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo is every Friday and Saturday night through the end of August, starting June 19.

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club has been named the 2026 U.S. Ski & Snowboard Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Club of the Year, with head coach Karl Denney being named Coach of the Year for the two disciplines and Overall Development Coach of the Year.
Three alumni athletes were also honored by U.S. Ski & Snowboard during the awards: Annika Belshaw, Ski Jumping Athlete of the Year; Alexa Brabec, Nordic Combined Athlete of the Year; and Niklas Malacinski, Nordic Combined Athlete of the Year.
Awards were given at the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Awards Banquet Tuesday in Park City, Utah.

Milling of streets in Steamboat Springs continues this week, to get ready for paving. Work being done this week is on Ridge Road, Storm Meadows Drive and Burgess Creek, Montview and Old Fish Creek Falls Road. Amethyst is this Saturday.

Work is also being done along U.S. Highway 40 just west of Hayden today, where new sidewalks, curbs and gutters are being installed. Also expect delays on Highway 40 for repaving between Hayden and Milner.

The STEM Education program at Steamboat Springs High School has received a grant for $9,475 from the Toshiba America Foundation. It’s to help students with hands-on engineering opportunities with 3D scanning technology.

Wednesday was the last day of school for the Class of 2026 at Hayden High School. The longstanding tradition of seniors walking with the kindergarteners for the K12 walk was Wednesday in the halls of the school. Graduation for Hayden High School is May 22.
Today is the last day of school for Seniors in the Class of 2026 at Steamboat Springs High School and at Moffat County High School. Graduation is May 23.

The Board of Directors for Yampa Valley Housing Authority meets at noon today. That meeting is in the Community Room of the Routt County Department of Human Services Building.

The Veterans Center in Steamboat Springs is hosting a Town Hall at 3:30 p.m. today (Thursday, May 14). It’s to learn more about the Western Colorado Health Care System with the Veterans Administration. The following subjects will be covered: Facility updates, overview of medical services, PACT Act Eligibility, and an overview of the VET Center. Someone from the Rifle Veterans Assisted Living Center will also be at the Town Hall to give information on the Veteran Assisted Living Centers especially at the Rifle Center. The Town Board of Oak Creek meets at 6:30 p.m. today. The Town Board will discuss an opening for a Municipal Judge, and consider approval and adoption of the 2026 Town of Oak Creek Comprehensive Plan.

The 44th Annual Cabaret, presented by Steamboat Creates, continues tonight through Saturday night at the Depot Art Center. The theme this year is a “Tale of Two Seasons,” inspired by the wild and unpredictable Steamboat weather. Lifeguards are being hired for the Craig Swimming Complex this summer. Apply through the City of Craig website before May 22.

The South Routt Elementary Fun Run is at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14 in Yampa. Meet on the courts at 9:15 a.m. for warmups.
The CHSAA State Track and Field Championships start today and run through Saturday. They’re at JeffCo Stadium in Lakewood. The top 18 athletes in each category are competing.
