The Howler Alpine Slide at Howelsen Hill opens for the season on Memorial Day weekend. It’s open Saturday through Monday, and will then open daily for the summer on May 30.
All proceeds benefit Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.

The Howler Steamboat Springs Alpine Slide will be open for Memorial Day Weekend May 23-25, 2026

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — The Howler Alpine Slide at Howelsen Hill, operated by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, will open Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25, 2026. The slide will open for the summer on May 30, operating seven days a week until school starts again, then on weekends into September.
A favorite summer activity for locals and visitors alike, the Howler Alpine Slide offers fun for all ages. Riders take a scenic chairlift ride to the top of historic Howelsen Hill, with panoramic views of downtown Steamboat Springs, before descending a 2,400-foot track that winds through the natural landscape.
Ticket Pricing
- Single Ride: $21 for adults, $17 for youth (13 and under) and military
- Child Ride-Along (under 48” tall): $12 (with a paying adult)
- Additional Rides: $10 each
- All-Day Passes: $49 for adults, $42 for youth, $32 for child ride-alongs
- Scenic chairlift rides: $12
- Uphill mountain bike transport*: $16 first ride (rider and bike); $10 re-ride on the same day; $45 all-day mountain bike pass
Group rates are available for parties, teams, birthdays and weddings. Children younger than 2 are not permitted to ride the slide.

Early Summer Season
Hours: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- May 23-25 (Memorial Day weekend only)
- May 30-June 19 (daily)
Mid-Summer
Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- June 20-Aug. 9 (daily)
Late Summer
Hours: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Aug. 10-16 (daily)
- Aug. 22-Sept. 6 (weekends only)
Fall
Hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Sept. 7 (Labor Day)
- Sept. 12-20 (weekends only)
Tickets may be purchased at the yurt located at the base of the Howelsen Hill chairlift.
Now Hiring
The Howler Alpine Slide is hiring seasonal summer staff. Flexible scheduling is available, including half-day and full-day shifts. Applicants must be at least 15 years old. The positions are well-suited for students and individuals participating in summer sports programs.
