Steamboat Springs Police Sergeant Michael “Mikey” Buccino has been honored with the prestigious MADD Officer Andrew Duarte Person of Impact Award. It’s for his “exceptional commitment to preventing impaired driving and protecting the Steamboat Springs community.”

 

Buccino was given the award Thursday at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.

The award is named after former Denver Police Officer Andrew Duarte who lost his life responding to an active shooter.

Sergeant Buccino Receives MADD Person of Impact Award

Prestigious Award Recognizing Top DUI Enforcement Efforts Across Colorado

 

Steamboat Springs, Colorado-May 22, 2026-Sergeant Michael ‘Mikey’ Buccino of the Steamboat Springs Police Department was recently honored with the prestigious MADD Officer Andrew Duarte Person of Impact Award for his exceptional commitment to preventing impaired driving and protecting the Steamboat Springs community.

“I cannot express how proud I am of Sergeant Buccino,” said Chief Mark Beckett. “He represents the values of our department, our city, and the badge every day. He understands the serious impact DUIs have on our community and serves as an inspiration to our officers and our community. I am proud to have him representing the City of Steamboat Springs and look forward to seeing him continue to uphold these values.”

Presented by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Colorado Department of Transportation, the award recognizes law enforcement professionals who go above and beyond each day to reduce DUI-related incidents, keep roadways safe and make a lasting impact on public safety within their communities.

Named in honor of Officer Andrew Duarte, the recognition highlights individuals who make a measurable impact in reducing impaired driving incidents and protecting lives through proactive enforcement, education and community commitment.

Sergeant Buccino received the award during a ceremony held at Empower Field at Mile High on Thursday, May 21, recognizing members of public safety from across Colorado for their efforts combating impaired driving and supporting safer communities.

Joining Sergeant Buccino at the ceremony were Sergeant Braxton Shirley, Sergeant Brenden Andrews, Detective Christian Barnett and Chief Mark Beckett.

The City of Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Springs Police Department congratulate Sergeant Buccino on this significant achievement and thank him for his continued dedication to protecting the community through proactive DUI enforcement and public safety service.
