The Montana Stockgrowers Association, or MSGA, has officially written the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks that they are in strong opposition to Montana providing any wolves for reintroduction into Colorado next year. They said Colorado wasn’t ready.
Voters in Colorado approved wolf reintroduction last November.
The MSGA says the concern is for Colorado livestock producers who don’t have the “available tools in place to allow for the protections and programs for their livestock that Montana producers currently have.”
Don Gittleson is the Jackson County rancher who has had three head of cattle killed by a pack of wolves. He said he called the Montana group to thank them.
Gittleson says the state has agreed to reimburse him $1,800 for the cost of one of his cows that was killed by the pack of wolves. The cost for the other two cows killed is still being discussed.
