A homeowner in the Oak Creek area killed a mountain lion Wednesday. It was in his chicken coop, 1.5 miles outside of Oak Creek on 20-Mile Road. The homeowner, who wishes not to be named, says his wife was five feet away, which is why he killed the mountain lion.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed the mountain lion kill, and verified that the mountain lion had killed 16 chickens already. That number has gone up to 17 as the homeowner confirmed another chicken died today. He also told Steamboat Radio News that he had three roosters that were injured pretty badly because they were trying to protect the hens in the chicken coop. He had to put those three roosters down as well.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirms that the mountain lion was a young female, weighing about 40 pounds and it was emaciated.
