Six new Firefighter/EMTs were sworn in to the Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue family Friday morning. They started the academy in January in Steamboat and finished up June 1. One of them is Danny LaPointe, who grew up in Steamboat Springs.
“It’s amazing. I grew up idolizing fire trucks and fire personnel my whole life. To be one of them now is something I am very proud of and grateful for. Giving back to the community has always been a hope and dream of mine and this is the beginning.”
Steamboat Springs Fire Chief Chuck Cerasoli and City Manager Gary Suiter both welcomed the new firefighters.
The local academy program was created by Training Lieutenant Chris Welch. He was also recognized by the six for his efforts in training them.
The six new firefighters join 29 full-time firefighters with Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue. Fire Chief Chuck Cerasoli led the pinning ceremony. The Class Valedictorian was Brandon Alt, as chosen by his peers.
