Members of the Rainbow Family have scheduled another Town Hall Informational Session. It’s from 2-4 p.m. Saturday in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library in Steamboat Springs.
At Wednesday’s gathering in Craig, a Rainbow named Adam told how the Rainbow Family deals with campfires in the meadow at the site up in northwest Routt County. He says they take their fire protocol very seriously.
Adam says they also have Fire Watch People walking around the site at all times, checking on fire safety. He says if fire restrictions go into place in Routt County, the cooks at the gathering are prepared to cook with propane, but that hasn’t had to happen since they were in Arizona in 1998.
People have started to travel to the site. At least 10,000 are expected for the main Rainbow Gathering, July 1-7.

The International Olympic Committee is scheduled to decide today whether to admit Women’s Nordic Combined into the Winter Olympics. This would directly affect three Steamboat athletes: Annika Malacinski, Tess Arnone, and Alexa Brabec. The IOC advocates for gender equality between men and women in every Olympic sport. However, Nordic Combined is the only sport in the Winter Olympics in which women do not compete.
