Your ballot should be in your mailbox, if it isn’t on your kitchen table by now. They were mailed out of Denver on Monday. Here’s Jenny Thomas, the Routt County Clerk and Recorder.

“So if you turn your ballot in soon, you’re going to stop getting all of those political phone calls and the door knocks. Also the beautiful thing about having a mail ballot is that you have time to sit down at your kitchen table, with your blue book and your white book, take your time, read through it. Then when it’s done, you’re ready to turn it in and you have the peace of mind knowing that you don’t have to wait in line on election day.”

You can mail in your ballot. But there are also drop boxes. Moffat County has a 24-hour Election Drop Box at the east entrance of the Moffat County Courthouse on W. Victory Way.

Or in Routt County, drop off locations are at Hayden Town Hall, Oak Creek Town Hall, Yampa Town Hall, and the Clark Store.

Or drop it off at the clerk’s office in the historic Routt County courthouse. There are also two 24/7 dropboxes in the old sheriff’s parking lot on Shield Drive or behind the courthouse annex.

The snowmaking machines and some of the large fan guns at Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs were fired up Tuesday. It was to test them to get them ready to go when the temperatures start to drop. Howelsen Hill is the oldest continuously operating ski area in North America, since 1914. Season passes are for sale. And Ski Free Sundays will be back this season. Opening Day for Howelsen Hill is set for Nov. 26. Steamboat Resort is set to open Nov. 23.

The new playground at Little Toots Park in Steamboat Springs was officially dedicated Tuesday. It’s called Lions Club Playground because of the 100-year anniversary of the Ski Town Lions Club and the longtime support the group has given to the playground.

Savannah MacNeil is a first grader who helped cut the celebratory ribbon.

“I like the new playground because it is so good. I want to play on it forever.”

The last playground at Little Toots was built back in 1995. Two more features called the Tri-Rock and the Grand Strand are still on back order.

More on the dedication at Little Toots Park

The Routt County Humane Society in Steamboat Springs has received a $7,500 dollar grant. It’s from the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. Employee Environmental Fund, and the Yampa Valley Community Foundation Grants Fund. It’s to help run their new Spay/Neuter/Disaster Relief trailer.

In Craig, Good Vibes River Gear is hosting a Craig Chamber Mixer Thursday night. It’s from 5-7 p.m. at 410 W. Victory Way.

Some local high school musicians have been named to the Western States Honors Orchestra. From Steamboat Springs, on cello, it’s Samuel Thomas. Viola players are Katerina Sharman and Kaela Pederson. Violin players are Rowan Turek and Mahala Wyant. They’ll meet for the Western States Honor Orchestra Festival Nov. 3-5.
