Today is the first day of the season at Steamboat Ski Resort. There’s lots of snow and terrain available on opening day with more on Thursday when Storm Peak opens up, bringing the total amount of acreage on Thursday to 324 acres. The new Skeeter’s Ice Rink in Steamboat Square is also open for the season today, with free skate rentals.

Howelsen Hill opens on Saturday for its 107th season with Ski Free Sundays back for another year.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is investigating eight poaching cases of deer and elk in San Miguel County. That’s south of Grand Junction and includes the town of Telluride. They’ve asked for the public’s help if you have any leads on the cases, which happened between Oct. 30 and Nov. 15. Pictures and more information are on our website and social media pages.
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife office in Steamboat Springs, along with the U.S. Forest Service office will be closed on Thursday and Friday for the holiday. They’ll open back up on Saturday. Call Routt County Dispatch if you have an emergency.
The Fish Creek Water Treatment Plant in Steamboat Springs is back to full operation after two months of improvements. The update project mainly addressed electrical and disinfection improvements.
There is no residential trash service in Craig on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day. Trash will be picked up on Friday, Nov. 25.
The Community Thanksgiving Dinner is on Thanksgiving Day. It’s from 1-5 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at the Steamboat Springs Community Center on the west side of town. It’s all free and everyone is invited.
The Turkey Trot is Thanksgiving morning in Steamboat Springs. It’s a benefit for the Steamboat Springs High School Track & Field team and the Cross Country team. The 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day at the high school and heads out towards Strawberry Park and back. Dress for cold weather. Costumes are welcomed and encouraged, as are runners, walkers, unicycles, competitive adaptive strollers, non-competitive bikes, burly trailers, striders, dogs on leash, and skateboards.
