Now through Oct. 13
The Craig Police Department has released a list of eight vehicles that have been impounded and are now for sale. Some haven’t been claimed after a criminal investigation and others have been abandoned. The vehicles range from a motorcycle to cars, trucks, and SUVs, as old as 1986 and as new as 2017. As of today, Sept. 29, you can make an appointment to inspect the vehicles that are available and then make a big anytime between now and Oct. 13. All vehicles are sold “as is.” Call the Moffat County Safety Center at 970-826-2360 to set up an appointment.

GroupGives of the Yampa Valley is coordinating their annual Coat Drive. They’re collecting “like new” winter coats for LiftUp, which will later be distributed to those who need some extra winter warmth. Look for GroupGives vans in the parking lot at Natural Grocers, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 11. Drop off bins are also available for coats now at The Group Real Estate offices at 509 Lincoln Avenue.

Fall Fest is back for another year at North Routt Community Charter School. The fun is from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the school in North Routt. There will be a pumpkin patch, food and games, music, and camels at a petting zoo. All proceeds go to North Routt Community Charter Preschool.

Oct. 11
There is a Free Veterinary Clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 11. It’s at Cook Subaru, at 1955 Curve Court. The ASPCA has provided a $4,000 grant to help provide free services to 100 pets in Northwest Colorado, including vaccinations and microchipping. The clinic is on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 100 animals.

Friends of the Yampa presents their annual Big Snow Bash fundraiser. It’s from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Old Town Pub. The band is, “A Brother’s Fountain.” Tickets are $35 for FOTY members and $40 for nonmembers. Members can purchase up to two tickets at the discounted ticket price and receive a door prize ticket upon entry. The online auction portion of the fundraiser will kick off at noon on Sunday, Oct. 5, and run through noon on Sunday, Oct. 12. The Routt Pumpkin Fest is Oct. 11-12, at Warhorse Ranch. Enjoy a pumpkin patch, hayride, hay maze, pony rides, a BBQ, live music, and lots of fun and games for the kids. Join the fun for the “Best Day Ever” party on Oct. 12, at Mountain Tap. This is the celebration of Pete Van De Carr, and the launch of the Best Day Ever Fund, set up in memory of Pete. It is to help youth have their own best day ever. There will be live music throughout the evening with door prizes and more. It’s from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12.
Oct. 13
Meet the city council and school board candidates today in a Candidates Forum, hosted by First Impressions. It starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Routt County Community Room at 135 6th Street in Steamboat Springs. They’ll be asked to share views on issues that impact young children, families, and early childhood education in Routt County. A light dinner and childcare will be provided.

Keep Bears Wild is hosting a talk about co-existing with bears in the Yampa Valley. It’s at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 I Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. Christy Bubenheim will also have an update from the International Human-Bear Conflicts Workshop.

The Town of Yampa is hosting a Community Vaccine Clinic with South Routt Medical Center. Vaccines that are available are flu, COVID, shingles, and MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella). Please bring an insurance card if you have one. The clinic is from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Crossan’s/Town Hall, 101 Main Street in Yampa.

You’re invited to learning about “The Cost of Poverty Experience,” or COPE. It’s an immersive simulation that gives a glimpse into the lives of low-income individuals and families in our community. The event is also hosted by the Health Partnership. It starts at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Steamboat Christian Center, and it includes lunch.
A second event is at the same time on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Chamber of Commerce building in Craig.
1st and 3rd Wednesdays (Oct. 15, Nov. 5 and 19, Dec. 3 and 17)
All are invited for CRIBBAGE at The Veterans Center. This is for beginners or experts and anyone who would like to join, from 6-8 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month.

Training for Responsible Alcohol Servers is Thursday, Oct. 16, in Craig. This is free to community members, although donations are appreciated from local businesses participating. The workshop training promotes responsible alcohol service, protects community safety, reduces legal and financial liability, enhances customer experience, and builds professional credibility. It is from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, in the library at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Craig. The Responsible Alcohol Server Training is sponsored by the Northwest Colorado Chapter of Parrotheads.

The Steamboat Sailors Dance Team is hosting a Disney Character Tea Party from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 because there is no school that day. It is at Strawberry Park Elementary. Kids can dress up, learn a dance, do some crafts, and take pictures with their favorite characters. Donations are accepted to help the dance team with expenses for uniforms and for travel to CHSAA’s State Championship Competition.

The Northwest Colorado Research Roadshow is Friday, Oct. 17, complete with an inflatable colon tunnel. It’s to help teach about polyps and the importance of getting screened to find cancer early. The Research Roadshow is a free community event designed for older adults, to learn how to live well and age strong through research. Topics include mobility, healthy brain aging, cancer prevention, and research for veterans. There will also be activities. A light lunch is included. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Join Routt County Coalition for a Ceasefire in a night of education and community for a film screening of “Where Olive Trees Weep” from 6-8 p.m. at Bud Werner’s Library Hall Monday, Oct. 20. The screening is open to anyone interested in learning more about the Palestinian struggle. Routt County Coalition for a Ceasefire’s portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to support Palestinian families impacted in partnership with Ceasefire Now Roaring Fork Valley. A new exhibit opens at the Tread of Pioneers Museum on Wednesday, June 25. The exhibit is: “Triumph and Perseverance: The Olympic Legacy in Steamboat Springs.” The exhibit will celebrate the record number of local Olympians who have called Steamboat Springs home, while building excitement for the upcoming 2026 Winter Games.

Northwest Colorado Health looking for volunteers
Northwest Colorado Health is seeking community members to join our volunteer team in Routt and Moffat counties. There is currently a specific need for volunteers in Moffat County, as well as bilingual English/Spanish volunteers in either county. Opportunities include:
- Hospice Volunteers – provide comfort and support to Hospice patients (direct service), or support Hospice families by running errands, cooking meals or assisting with other tasks (indirect service);
- The Haven Assisted Living Volunteers – share a talent or skill with residents in Hayden;
- Event Volunteers – support fundraising events by helping to sell and deliver Hospice Daffodils in the spring or assist with the Rubber Ducky Race for Hospice in the summer/fall.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds and will tailor positions to your unique skills, availability and experience. Hospice certification training is required for individuals interested in working directly with Hospice patients; the next training for these volunteer roles will be held in early May.

Community grief support groups are available in Steamboat Springs at the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church, in the fireplace room there. This is at 736 Oak Street. They meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Groups also meet at the Hayden Public Library. That’s from 3-4 pm. on the first and third Monday of each month.
Meetings focus on understanding death and honoring connection with a deceased loved one while making a healthy transition into life without that person. These support groups are free and open to the community. The Craig branch of the Moffat County Library is partnering with local Girl Scouts to offer a special Saturday Story Time. The Girl Scouts will be reading the books at 3:30 p.m. on every third Saturday of the month. This is in addition to regular Story Time every Thursday, which has story time sessions at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. each week.
The “Partners” organization is looking for some male mentors. This is for Routt and Moffat counties. They have 25 youth on a waitlist and they especially need men to help be a mentor. Applications are at PartnersYouth.org or reach out to Erin@PartnersYouth.org
