Here’s a list of some of the events happening in the Yampa Valley, in both Routt and Moffat County, and a few in Rio Blanco County. They’re listed in the order in which they happen. ONGOING events are at the end.

 

Tuesdays

The Moffat County School District Bookmobile is back in service for the summer. The Bookmobile is at Moffat County High School from 9:45 a.m.-11:15 a.m. every Tuesday until July 22. It is also at Sunset Elementary from 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 18 until July 24. The Bookmobile will be closed the week of Independence Day, June 30-July 4. Pick up a book or donate a book.

 

May 31-Aug. 31

Steamboat Art Museum presents The Art of Printmaking: Process and Passion, May 31 through Aug. 31. From Plate to Paper, experience the soul of printmaking unveiled. Guest curated by master printmaker and artist, Sue Oehme,

bringing together 45 artists from around the world.

June 21  Celebration with the Curator and Artists from 5-7 p.m. Tickets go on sale May 15.

June 5-Aug. 14

The Walnut Street Market in Hayden is from 5-8 p.m. every Thursday, from June 5-Aug. 14. You’ll find produce and items from local families, farmers, ranchers and artists, as well as food trucks. If interested in participating, email Market@HaydenColorado.org The cost is $10 for a vendor and $25 for a food truck. Vendors must have a valid sales tax license.

 

June 7-Sept. 20

The Steamboat Springs Farmers Market, presented by F.M. Light & Sons, is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday on Yampa Street. You’ll find over 150 vendors at the Farmers Market each week.

 

Apply before June 9

Moffat County School District has a Summer School program for kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. It’s for two weeks in June and three weeks in July, at Sunset Elementary. Apply with the QR code on the flyer. The deadline to apply is June 9.

 

June 9-Aug. 2

Registration is open for Perry-Mansfield Summer Day Camp, which is June 9-Aug. 2. It’s for kids who are five to 12 years old, in three different age groups. Starts June 10

Craig Water is doing work to identify all unknown water service in public water systems to reduce or eliminate lead. It’s required by state and federal government. There are 142 areas that will involve hydro excavating, or potholing, to get a sample of these unknown water lines. Craig Water and Wastewater Director Carl Rays says residents who will be affected will get a door hanger on their door.

“We will be determining water service materials. We ask that you please follow the door hanger instructions to keep vehicles out of the area while we are performing the work.”

Work begins Tuesday, June 10, and will take three to four weeks. Any holes dug in the street or your yard will be filled and you do not need to be home when the work is done.

 

June 10-13

The City of Craig Road and Bridge sends word of street closures starting Tuesday, June 10 and running through Friday. Eighth Street is closed from Yampa to Washington. Russel and Tucker Streets will be closed from 7th to 8th Street, for milling and paving. On-street parking will not be allowed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this week starting Tuesday. Tuesday, June 10, 17, and 24

A group of churches in Steamboat Springs is coordinating what they are calling HOPE Sessions. It’s every Tuesday evening this month to discuss talks on mental health. The discussions are to offer a sense of hope and community support to those who have experienced personal struggles with hopelessness. The sessions are at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday in Library Hall at Bud Werner Memorial Library. All are invited.

 

June 11, 18, and 25

The parent education group called, “Steamboat Kids & Phones” is hosting a “Talk the Walk” series of discussions about kids, phones and technology. Meet at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday (June 11, June 18, and June 25) at the Memorial Park sign by the field on 2nd Street for a walk to the middle school and back.

The topics slated for June were determined based on our six-month feedback survey and recommendations from local parents:

  • Walk #1-Wednesday, June 11, 5:15 pm- Netflix series Adolescence
  • Walk #2-Wednesday, June 18- 5:15 pm- Online pornography
  • Walk #3- Wednesday, June 25- 5:15 pm- Ongoing parenting challenges around tech & phones

 

June 12

2025 Walnut Street Dance in Hayden, from 5-8 p.m. on S. Walnut Street. It’s free and open for all ages. There will be music, dancing, food, drinks, crafts, and fun.

 

Before June 12

The City of Craig is looking for lifeguards for the summer. Apply with the Aquatics Manager at the pool, Anita Reynolds, before June 12, at areynolds@CityofCraig.org You must be 15 and pass a pre-course swim test.

 

June 13

The Hayden Granary Barn Dances are once a month through October. Suggested donation is $10/person ($5 for youth) or $20 on nights of LIVE music. The shows are from 6:30-10 p.m. on Friday nights. Steamboat Cars & Coffee starts Saturday, May 3. These are cool cars on display from 9-11 a.m. every other Saturday starting May 3. If you have a cool car, truck, motorcycle, or vehicle, bring it to the transit center parking lot at 1505 Lincoln Ave., for everyone to see.

The Hamric family of Steamboat Springs is launching the “Live Big. Love Big. Jesse Cyrus Hamric Foundation for Fearless Love and Courage.” It’s to honor their son, Jesse Hamric, who died last summer in an accident in Virginia. Jesse had just graduated from Steamboat Springs High School.

The Hamric Family is launching the foundation with a kickoff celebration at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at Flying Diamond Ranch in Oak Creek. Tickets are available through the website at LiveBigLoveBigFoundation.org

The JCH Foundation supports things like new high-definition speakers at Steamboat Springs High School, storytelling with podcasts and writings, rail jams and jam sessions, as Jesse was a competitive snowboarder, and also grants and scholarships throughout the community.

A Routt County Fair Royalty Clinic is at noon on Friday, June 20. This is at the Routt County Fairgrounds in Hayden. 2025 Routt County Fair Queen Taylor Clyncke will be there to help. The clinic is open to all interested girls for both traditional and princess roles.

This is to prepare for fair programs and tryouts for 2026. The Routt County Fair Royalty is a “team of young ladies who promote the Routt County Fair, our western way of life, and our agricultural traditions in the Yampa Valley.”

June 20

Free radon kits, vaping and smoking cessation resources available at cancer survivorship event

In recognition of National Cancer Survivors Month, the providers and staff at UCHealth Jan Bishop Cancer Center invite patients with cancer, survivors of cancer, and the families and caregivers who support them to a special event on Friday, June 20 from 4-6 p.m. at Strings Music Pavilion. Heidi Onda, a lung cancer survivor, will share her journey with cancer and the inspiration behind The White Ribbon Project, of which she is a co-founder and director. Representatives from the University of Colorado Cancer Center’s Office of Community Outreach and Engagement will be on hand to provide free radon kits and education as well as vaping and smoking cessation information and resources. The North Park Never Summer Rodeo is June 20-22. This is in Walden, in Jackson County. The parade is at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 22. The theme is Pioneering Women. This is the 83rd year for the North Park Never Summer Rodeo.

 

June 21

The Toponas Hall and Community Club is hosting their annual dinner and dance summer party. Social Hour starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 21, followed by dinner and dancing. Jarrod Sterrett and The Hired Guns are playing. Cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children, and $50 for a family. It’s $10 cover charge for the band only. Pay at the door. June 21

The Elkhead Reservoir Fishing Classic is June 21-29 at Elkhead Reservoir State Park. All anglers are welcome, including kids and families. Tournament angling starts at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 21, and ends the following Sunday, June 29. Information is on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website. Look for the Activities tab, and then Events. The event is free and you could win cash and prizes. Anyone 16 or older needs a valid fishing license. An Annual or Daily State Park pass is required to enter Elkhead State Park. For more information, call 970-276-2061.

 

June 21

The Celebration of Life for Josephine Semotan is at 11:30 Saturday, June 21, at the Semotan Ranch, 23495 County Road 56 in Steamboat. Jo was the lady in the famous barn poster with two horses in front of Mt. Werner. She died last November at age 85. Anyone who knew Jo is invited.

June 21

The Steamboat Springs Running Series has a race on June 21. It’s the Howelsen Hill Trail Run. It’s a 4-mile and an 8-mile trail run around the trails on Emerald Mountain. Register at www.RunningSeries.com This is a benefit for the Knights of Columbus that does a lot of work with Special Olympics. Kids 16 and under are $15. There is a raffle and food after each event.

The 2025 Free Summer Concerts have been announced. Five free shows at the Howelsen Hill Amphitheater start June 21 and run through September.

The Elkhead State Park Fishing Tournament is Saturday, June 21, through Sunday, June 29. There are no size or bag limits on northern pike and smallmouth bass at Elkhead Reservoir, and anglers have a chance to win multiple awards and more than $10,000 in prizes for legally harvesting these species during this nine-day tournament. Elkhead Fishing Tournament Details:

  • Event Start: Saturday, June 21 at 6:30 a.m.
  • Event End: Sunday, June 29 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Location: Elkhead Reservoir State Park

Registration before the event is not required. There is no tournament entry fee, but an Annual Keep Colorado Wild or $10 daily state park pass is required to enter Elkhead State Park. Anyone 16 years or older is required to have a valid fishing license.

A new exhibit opens at the Tread of Pioneers Museum on Wednesday, June 25. The exhibit is: “Triumph and Perseverance: The Olympic Legacy in Steamboat Springs.” The exhibit will celebrate the record number of local Olympians who have called Steamboat Springs home, while building excitement for the upcoming 2026 Winter Games.

 

 

June 27-28

The Hayden Dodgeball Tournament is Friday and Saturday, June 27-28, in 3rd Street Park in Hayden. The kids tournament is Friday evening. The adult tournament is Saturday afternoon. Register by calling 970-276-0500.

Stagecoach State Park is hosting a Safety Paddle event. Bring your paddle vessel, whether it’s a paddleboard, canoe, kayak, or sailboat, to paddle around the cover and brush up on boating safety. Drop off leftover paint for recycling, or pick up free paint at the Steamboat Springs PaintCare Event. Households can bring in most types of paint, stain, and varnish, in any amount. There are some limits to businesses bringing in oil-based paint.

  • PaintCare Will Accept: Unwanted house paint and primers (latex or oil-based); stains; deck and concrete sealers; and clear finishes (varnish and shellac). Paint must be in sealed, original containers with the original manufacturer label.
  • PaintCare CANNOT Accept: Leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers; aerosol coatings; drums or containers larger than five gallons; hazardous waste or other chemicals, such as paint thinner, solvents, motor oil, spackle, glue, adhesive, roofing tar, pesticides, or cleaning chemicals.

Homemade Homegrown in Downtown Craig is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, July 12. It’s a day of beer tasting and voting, food trucks, craft vendors, and live music. The North Park Pioneer Players present The Treasure of Shiver River, during North Park Days in Walden, July 18-19. CCCC’s Photo Contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers through August 9, 2025. Participants can choose from four different categories, with prizes awarded in each category and displayed at the Yampa Valley Crane Festival.

Sept. 8-late October, 2025

The Dinosaur Quarry Exhibit Hall in the town of Dinosaur in western Moffat County will be closed to all visitor access, Sept. 8 through late October. Work is being done on the road, the parking lot, and the sidewalk on the Utah side of the monument. The closure only affects the exhibit hall, also known as the “Wall of Bones.”

Vendors Wanted for the Steamboat Gravel Ride

The SBT GRVL ride is looking for vendors for race day in Hayden, on June 29. The Hayden Community Festival is in Dry Creek Park. There is no cost to be a vendor. This is for art, games, food and drink. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more, contact Greer Van Dyck at greer@sbtgrvl.com.

 

 

Northwest Colorado Health looking for volunteers

Northwest Colorado Health is seeking community members to join our volunteer team in Routt and Moffat counties. There is currently a specific need for volunteers in Moffat County, as well as bilingual English/Spanish volunteers in either county. Opportunities include:

  • Hospice Volunteers – provide comfort and support to Hospice patients (direct service), or support Hospice families by running errands, cooking meals or assisting with other tasks (indirect service);
  • The Haven Assisted Living Volunteers – share a talent or skill with residents in Hayden;
  • Event Volunteers – support fundraising events by helping to sell and deliver Hospice Daffodils in the spring or assist with the Rubber Ducky Race for Hospice in the summer/fall.

We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds and will tailor positions to your unique skills, availability and experience. Hospice certification training is required for individuals interested in working directly with Hospice patients; the next training for these volunteer roles will be held in early May.

Northwest Colorado Health looking for volunteers

Northwest Colorado Health is seeking community members to join our volunteer team. Volunteers are a vital part of our effort to improve health and quality of life for all Northwest Colorado residents. We have a variety of rewarding roles in Routt and Moffat counties available, and we currently have a specific need for volunteers in Moffat County, as well as bilingual English/Spanish volunteers in either county. Opportunities include: Hospice Volunteers – provide comfort and support to Hospice patients (direct service), or support Hospice families by running errands, cooking meals or assisting with other tasks (indirect service); The Haven Assisted Living Volunteers – share a talent or skill with residents in Hayden; and Event Volunteers – support fundraising events by helping to sell and deliver Hospice Daffodils in the spring or assist with the Rubber Ducky Race for Hospice in the summer/fall. We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds and will tailor positions to your unique skills, availability and experience. Hospice certification training is required for individuals interested in working directly with Hospice patients; the next training for these volunteer roles will be held in early May. Moffat County 4-H is looking for 4-H leaders. They need help with things like leatherwork and woodworking, foods, baking, beekeeping, sewing, and scrapbooking. Reach out to the local 4-H office if you’re interested. 970-824-9180.

Now Available

The free Grief Resource Center opens on Wednesday, October 2, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Steamboat Springs. Northwest Colorado Health is running it. The Grief Resource Center will be open weekly and staffed by bereavement volunteers from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesdays and from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursdays. Community members can find resources and books to support their grief journey or stop in to connect with caring volunteers. There is a private entrance to the library off the alley behind the church. There is a new exhibit at the Museum of Northwest Colorado in Craig. It’s called “The Graveyard of Buoyant Hopes,” with watercolors and photographs specializing in ghost towns at the Old West. It is a dual media exhibit with the watercolors by Kevin Heaney and the photographs by Lee Silliman. The museum is on Yampa Ave. in Craig.

Community grief support groups are available in Steamboat Springs at the Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church, in the fireplace room there. This is at 736 Oak Street. They meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Groups also meet at the Hayden Public Library. That’s from 3-4 pm. on the first and third Monday of each month.

Meetings focus on understanding death and honoring connection with a deceased loved one while making a healthy transition into life without that person. These support groups are free and open to the community. The Craig branch of the Moffat County Library is partnering with local Girl Scouts to offer a special Saturday Story Time. The Girl Scouts will be reading the books at 3:30 p.m. on every third Saturday of the month. This is in addition to regular Story Time every Thursday, which has story time sessions at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. each week.

 

 

The “Partners” organization is looking for some male mentors. This is for Routt and Moffat counties. They have 25 youth on a waitlist and they especially need men to help be a mentor. Applications are at PartnersYouth.org or reach out to Erin@PartnersYouth.org
