SSHS Sailors dominate at Howelsen Hill ski meet

The Steamboat Sailors Alpine Ski Team hosted athletes from teams around the region at Howelsen Hill Thursday, for the High School Slalom State Qualifier. The Steamboat Sailors women’s ski team took first place overall and the Sailor men were second place.

Top finishes for the Sailor women were Emma McHaffie (2nd), Kinsley Jacobson (4th), Audra Gowdy (5th) and Neve Wade (13th).

Top finishes for the SSHS men were Colin Kagan (bib #461) in 2nd place. Colin is a senior and just coming off of shoulder surgery in October. He has enjoyed racing with the high school team. Colin is pictured with Dawson Holmes (bib #465) who finished 17th.

Other top finishes are Erik Sandvik (5th), Fisher St. John (10th), Nolan Laird (13th), Tomas Niedermeier (15th), and Harrison Sherman (16th).

High School teams competing included Aspen, Colorado Rocky Mountain, Battle Mountain, Vail Mountain, Eagle Valley, Summit, and of course, the Sailors.

Sailors Ski Team Schedule:

  • Jan. 27 against Summit High School at Keystone
  • Feb. 3 against Aspen High School at Aspen Mountain
  • Feb. 10 against Middle park at Winter Park
  • Feb. 16-17 CHSAA State Championships at Copper Mountain
