The City of Steamboat Springs is looking to community members who might be interested in running a Yampa River Ambassador Program in the summer. It would start in mid-May focusing on high water and rafting safety education, and then emphasize tubing in the summer. The program would share information on responsible river recreation and water use. The city is taking Requests for Proposals from those who might be interested. The deadline to apply is March 24.

Here is more from the City of Steamboat Springs; March 14, 2023.

Parks & Rec Circulates River Ambassador Program RFP
Yampa River Program Spans 4 Month Period With Proposals Due March 24

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-March 14, 2023-Parks & Recreation is seeking qualified proposals from professional vendors to administer a Yampa River Ambassador Program over the summer months that shares educational and recreational responsibility elements with the public.

“The Yampa River Ambassadors is a new program that we’re looking to launch in 2023 with the assistance of a business or non-profit familiar with the Yampa River,” said Parks, Open Space & Trails Manager Craig Robinson. “We’ve seen the success of similar programs on trails and believed a program like this would flow nicely in helping to further protect the community’s #1 natural asset.”

The ambassador service program would run from mid-May to just after the September Labor Day weekend with a focus on high water/rafting safety education early in the season; followed by a significant emphasis on tubing over the prime summer months. In addition, the program would share information on responsible river recreation and water use.

As part of the RFP, submitting entities will be required to provide a cost proposal that outlines ambassador personnel requirements, hourly rates, formal outreach event costs and other program expenses.

The selected recipient would work with city staff to develop components of the program. As part of the project scope, four formal outreach events would be hosted along with ongoing river presence at least three times per week in at least one location each of those days. Weekly updates, statistical counts, and reporting, including a final season account, would be required.

Proposals must be submitted via the electronic submission on BidNet no later than 5:00 PM on March 24, 2023. Additional RFP requirements and information can be found on the BidNet platform.
