The issues at the Steamboat Springs Post Office are featured in a recent article called “Rural America Grows Weary of Waiting for Its Mail” in The Wall Street Journal. One paragraph says, “In Steamboat Springs, a large banner on the front of the post office says it is hiring and encourages applicants to apply at USPS.com/careers. But no Steamboat-based jobs were listed on the website as of this week.” The USPS Corporate office out of Denver asked us to repeatedly share the hiring link, even though only a custodian job was listed most of the time. As of Monday, not jobs listed.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page on the U.S. Postal Service website is selling T-shirts with a postal service truck on them and the words “Guaranteed Delivery.”
A couple was staying in a rental home near Nathrop, Colorado, which is south of Buena Vista. They were sitting out in the hot tub Saturday night when a mountain lion snuck up on them, grabbed the man and clawed him in the head. His wife screamed and splashed the mountain lion with water from the hot tub. The mountain lion backed away up a hill but kept crouching and watching. The couple managed to get inside and call CPW officers, who are now trying to catch the mountain lion.

Wednesday, March 22, is a College & Career Fair at Colorado Northwestern Community College. It is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the CNCC campus in Craig, in the Main Lobby. Businesses from Northwest Colorado and colleges from Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming will be there.
The special needs program at Steamboat Springs High School is looking for a van to be donated to program at the school, if anyone has one. Chuck Rosemond is the teacher. They need the van for their transition programming, which is where the students go to learn different things in the community before transitioning out after graduation.
“For example, we take students to LiftUp and they have jobs at LiftUp. We go once or twice a week and they’ll do work-based learning activities. We visit the Warhorse Ranch which is a therapeutic working horse ranch where our kids have jobs. They don’t go to ride horses. They go to take care of horses out there. So if we had a vehicle that we could use that would be dedicated to the center-based transition programming, as the primary focus for the use of the vehicle, that would be huge.”
The special needs program has eight students now but they expect it to double next year. Rosemond is hoping for a 15-passenger vehicle. Call the high school principal if you can help.
