The Town of Hayden is having a meeting for any flood victims who may need long-term assistance. It is at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hayden Town Hall. Integrated Communities will be there for translation, also other local groups like United Way. The town of Hayden is watching Dry Creek for more flooding and is also preparing for the Yampa River flooding in the next few weeks. Sandbags are ready and the Routt County Office of Emergency Management is involved.
The Hayden School District has narrowed it down to two finalists for the position of superintendent. They are Troy Damman and Eric Owen. The two candidates are touring the area and Hayden Valley Schools Thursday and Friday. Parents and the community are invited to meet the two candidates. It’s also at 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Hayden School Commons. The candidates will be interviewed Friday morning.

The Yampa Valley Housing Authority has hired Elliot Lawrence as Deputy Executive Director. The Deputy Director will be primarily responsible for business operations and staff management with additional responsibility including strategic communications and risk management for the whole organization. Lawrence has most recently been Director of Resort Operations at One Steamboat Place. He starts today, April 19.
The U.S. Postal Service is having a Hiring Fair in Steamboat Springs. It’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20. Just stop by at the local post office at 3rd and Lincoln. The hourly rate is just over $20 per hour ($20.05) with paid time off, holidays, and insurance. Bring your driver’s license, education history, and list of past employment.
Resurfacing work has started on Colorado Highway 318. That’s from the Utah border, through Brown’s Park, and down towards Sunbeam and Maybell. Expect 15-minute delays during construction hours. Rumble strips are also being added.

Steamboat Resort says uphill access on the mountain is still available. Stick to designated routes as there is heavy machinery on the mountain and roads are being plowed for on-mountain improvements this summer. All uphill access is at your own risk. If you have an emergency, call 911.
Uphill Access routes are:
- Wild Blue Way to Shortcut, Vogue, Sitz, Jess’ Cut-Off, and then up Heavenly Daze to Thunderhead
- Up Right-O-Way to Giggle Gulch, Short Cut or Yoo Hoo then to Trick Roper or Boulevard to access Heavenly Daze
- Up Right-O-Way to either Vagabond or BC Ski Way to So What to Why Not
- Upper mountain from either Thunderhead or Rainbow Saddle – continue up Rainbow to Calf Roper to Buddy’s Run, or Thunderhead to Arc to Duster to High Noon

Hayden’s Keenan Hayes just had a big bareback win before a sold-out crowd in San Angelo, Texas. 20-year-old Hayes won the San Angelo Cinch Chute-out, which is where you ride the two best horses in under an hour.
