Do not swim through the flooded Howelsen Tunnel. The City of Steamboat Springs has signage and fencing up to remind everyone that the tunnel is closed. A listener spotted some young people doing it on Monday, hence the reminder to not swim, or try to swim, through the flooded tunnel. Please spread the word.

A totaled vehicle is sitting in front of Steamboat Springs High School this week, to show the kids the dangers of drinking and driving. Officer Lisa Eifling is the School Resource Officer for Steamboat Springs Police. She says the kids are so surprised when they see how destroyed the car is.

“So many times they’re like, ‘Wow, how did this happen?’ which is great. Because that’s what we want. We want a conversation. We have a lot of hard conversations that we’re going to have and this is just one of them.”

Officer Eifling’s mom was hit by a drunk driver before she was born so she is very passionate about telling the students how dangerous it is. No one was killed in the wrecked car that is on display at the high school but beer cans were found in the car.

This is Teen Safety Week in the Yampa Valley. It’s for teenagers and their families to help bring awareness to the social challenges teens face, and help provide tools and resources available in the community. Today’s focus is on the dangers of driving distracted. Teenagers are more likely to be in an accident because of inexperience, technology, speeding, and peer passengers. Focus on the road and don’t multitask. Keep distractions, like phones, out of the car. Limit the number of passengers in a car and always wear a seatbelt. There’s more on Teen Safety Week on our website.

The U.S. Postal Service Food Drive is this Saturday, May 13. The Craig Post Office is collecting food donations to donate to the Interfaith Food Bank in Craig. You can leave your donation at your mail box and your carrier will pick it up. Or there are drop-off locations at the Craig Post Office, Dollar Tree, City Market and Walmart in Craig.

Possible food vendors for the six city parks in Steamboat Springs need to fill out an application with the city. Mobile food permits are limited, as are the hours and locations.

The Town of Hayden Public Works Department is doing Fire Hydrant Flushing this week. Hayden residents might see some discoloration in tap water. Just run the faucet and it will disappear. The water is safe to drink.

They will host a ROUND TWO game at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 12, against either Battle Mountain or Ponderosa. We will be there, covering it LIVE on KTYV 105.7 Sports on FM and watch through SteamboatRadio.com

The Steamboat Girls Lacrosse team is playing Fruita Monument today in the first round of the Girls Lacrosse State Championships. That game is away, at 5:30 p.m. tonight.
