Stay off muddy trails. The City of Steamboat Springs is asking hikers and bikers to respect the trail closures so there isn’t long-term damage. All single-track trails on Emerald Mountain that are maintained by the city are closed because of muddy conditions, except Blackmer to the Quarry. Current trail conditions, including closures can be found on the city’s website at SteamboatSprings.net There is also a Routt County Trail Conditions Facebook group.
Routt County Riders is visiting local middle schools for Bike Safety. They were in Hayden Thursday. Laraine Martin is executive director for Routt County Riders.
“Every single kid is going to check their helmet for fit, bike safety checks, and then we cover a lot of safety guidelines and the rules of the road for the kids to commute to and from school, from home or whatever. Basically, just keeping them safe as they’re out riding throughout the whole summer.”
Students can either bring their own bike, or they get a bike and a helmet to use from The Cycle Effect, which had enough bikes for everyone. Routt County Riders will be at Steamboat Springs Middle School next week for Bike Safety.
