The bridge at Fish Creek Falls is now open but it will cost $1 million to do the repairs that are needed. Here’s Aaron Voos with the U.S. Forest Service.
“It’s just a combination of the age of the bridge, the erosion at that abutment which is caused by the flows and the water. It’s not one particular thing. It’s just something that occurred over time.”
The bridge was closed this winter because of heavy snowpack and avalanche danger on the trail. It stayed closed due to high runoff and structural concerns in the spring, up until a few weeks ago. Now, there are sandbags along the base of the bridge, and signs that say only four people are allowed on the bridge at a time.
The US Forest Service is working on getting the $1 million to fix the bridge in the fall. If they can’t, it will be temporarily closed again in the spring.
