Steamboat Springs Police Chief Mark Beckett was officially sworn in by Judge Paul Sachs on Thursday. Chief Beckett has been serving as interim chief since February. He says it’s an honor and he is thrilled to be serving in the Steamboat Springs community.
“I came from a big city, the community here, the support has been overwhelming, from everybody, even in this ceremony to have so many folks to take time out of their day to come by and support me and the department, it’s a huge honor, very humbling.
Many law enforcement and first responders attended the swearing in of Chief Beckett at City Hall. Routt County Sheriff Doug Scherar was there, and welcomed Chief Beckett to his job with the Steamboat Springs Police Department.
“I started as a Reserve Deputy in Routt County in 1994, almost 30 years ago. Over those 30 years, there has never been a better relationship between the Routt County Sheriff’s Office and the Steamboat Police Department and that’s all because of Mark and his team.”
Deputy City Manager Tom Leeson added that Chief Beckett has brought some fresh perspectives to the police department. He has also brought a sense of leadership and a great sense of humor.
Chief Beckett was also joined by his family, and his mother, Virginia, who traveled from Buffalo, NY.
He thanked everyone who helped hire him in Steamboat Springs and he says he is looking forward to a long future with the Steamboat Springs Police Department.
