A former Steamboat Springs resident is reporting from the front lines of the war in Israel.
Nicole Zedeck is an International Correspondent with i24News, which is an Israeli-based 24-hour news channel in Tel Aviv, Israel. She was a regular reporter until about four days ago, when the war started.
“Even when I was down there today, there still is ongoing action. They told us to be on the lookout because there still are terrorists in Israeli territory right now. However, they wanted us to see exactly what happened in one of these small communities near the southern border, that was completely wiped out. I mean, I saw horrific scenes that is hard to even describe.”
I24News broadcasts in three languages: English, French, and Arabic. It focuses on the news happening in the Middle East and Israel but giving it to an international audience.
We asked Nicole about her parents, and how they are coping with her reporting from a war zone.
“They definitely are very, very worried for me but they’re also very, very proud. That’s what they keep saying. So it’s difficult for them but they’re proud that I’m giving it the coverage that it deserves because people do need to see what’s happening here.”
Zedeck went to Lowell Whiteman School, and she was a 2017 graduate of Steamboat Mountain School. She was also part of the cheer team for the Steamboat Sailors.
“That’s my home. I’ve moved around a lot since then but whenever anyone asks me, ‘Where are you from?’ I say, ‘Colorado! Steamboat Springs.’”
Zedeck majored in journalism at Chapman University in California. She worked at a TV station in Alabama before moving to Israel to work for i24News eight months ago.
