Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue pins five new firefighters

Five new firefighters have been sworn in to Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue. They are Bryan Barry, Derek Diamond, Michael Hall, Angel Ramirez, and Dillon Sanders. Pictures are below.

 

The new firefighters did 12 weeks of training at the Fire Academy and then 12 weeks of EMS training. Lieutenant Chris Welch helps with that training, and he emphasized the ties to the community.

“These recruits have shown a very large commitment to their community, in serving their community not just as a career and profession, but as serving their family, and taking care of these community members not just for a paycheck but because it’s the right thing to do and they believe in it.”

 

Nick Fernandez received his pin from his wife.

Nick Fernandez was also honored with a promotion to Firefighter/Engineer. In his new engineer role, Fernandez will be responsible for maintaining and driving apparatus that transport firefighters, carry equipment, and pump water at fire scenes. A specific department certification to operate firefighting equipment is required, which mandates specific training, experience, and testing on the apparatus.

 

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue provides emergency services within the district. Staffed by career firefighters divided into three shifts, which provide emergency coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the combined fire district is approximately 385 square miles including the 10 square miles that make up the city.

 

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Chief Chuck Cerasoli said the department is in a good spot right now, especially because of this new group has they have shown dedication, hard work, and teamwork. “These guys really worked hard to be where they are.”

He reminded the new firefighters that they are, “never out there by yourself.” He says they work in shifts and crews, which creates a family and bond. They are an integral part of the team right off the bat. He added that his motto is to, “Do the right thing, for yourself, your community, and for the department.”

 

Steamboat Springs City Manager Gary Suiter also spoke highly of Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue, and their dedication, teamwork, loyalty, and sacrifice. “Those are just a few of the traits that Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue possesses to serve the citizens of Steamboat Springs.” Suiter also spoke of his appreciation to Fire Chief Chuck Cerasoli for his leadership, and he appreciates everyone with Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue.

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue Pins New Firefighters

New Firefighters & Promotion Highlighted During Oct. 10 Ceremony

 

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-October 4, 2023-Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue (SSFR) will be hosting a pinning ceremony next week to officially honor the new group of firefighters joining the department and recognize a recent promotion.

 

Five new firefighters Bryan Berry, Derek Diamond, Michael Hall, Angel Ramirez, and Dillon Sanders will be sworn in during a badge pinning ceremony on October 10. Also being honored during the event is the promotion of Nick Fernandez to Firefighter/Engineer.

 

The ceremony is the culmination of a six-month training academy for recruits and marks the transition from probationary to sworn firefighter. With this achievement not only comes the badge, but a new helmet representing the recruits’ status change.

 

In his new engineer role, Fernandez will be responsible for maintaining and driving apparatus that transport firefighters, carry equipment, and pump water at fire scenes. A specific department certification to operate firefighting equipment is required, which mandates specific training, experience, and testing on the apparatus.

 

The pinning ceremony is a long-standing public safety tradition which awards the badge on an individual either upon graduation or promotion. The celebratory event will take place on Tuesday morning, October 10, at 9 a.m. in Centennial Hall (124 10th Street).

 

Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue serves the City of Steamboat Springs and the surrounding Steamboat Springs Area Fire Protection District by reducing human suffering and property loss, protecting the environment, and promoting life safety through incident response, wildland fire and mitigation services, public education, and fire prevention programs.

 

The department provides emergency services within the district. El Cuerpo de Bomberos de Steamboat Springs Insignia a Nuevos Bomberos

Nuevos Bomberos y Ascensos Destacados Durante la Ceremonia del 10 de Octubre

 

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO-4 de Octubre de 2023-El Cuerpo de Bomberos de Steamboat Springs (SSFR) celebrará la próxima semana una ceremonia de imposición de insignias para honrar oficialmente al nuevo grupo de bomberos que se unen al departamento y reconocer un reciente ascenso.

 

Cinco nuevos bomberos, Bryan Berry, Derek Diamond, Michael Hall, Angel Ramirez y Dillon Sanders, prestarán juramento durante una ceremonia de colocación de insignias el 10 de octubre. También se honrará durante el acto el ascenso de Nick Fernández a Bombero/Ingeniero.

 

La ceremonia es la culminación de una academia de formación de seis meses para reclutas y marca la transición de bombero en prácticas a bombero jurado. Con este logro no sólo llega la insignia, sino un nuevo casco que representa el cambio de estatus de los reclutas.

 

En su nuevo puesto de ingeniero, Fernández será responsable del mantenimiento y la conducción de los aparatos que transportan a los bomberos, llevan el equipo y bombean agua en los escenarios de los incendios. Se requiere una certificación específica del departamento para manejar equipos de extinción de incendios, que exige formación, experiencia y pruebas específicas en los aparatos.

 

La ceremonia de imposición de insignias es una antigua tradición de seguridad pública que otorga la insignia a una persona tras su graduación o ascenso. El acto de celebración tendrá lugar el martes 10 de octubre a las 9 de la mañana en el Centennial Hall (124 10th Street).
