The new campus apartment building at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs was dedicated today.
The leadership team from throughout CMC came to Steamboat Springs for the ribbon cutting, including Carrie Hauser, the President and CEO of Colorado Mountain College. She says now more students can complete their programs at the local campus.
“We have found that prior to this, we had students coming for a year or two, and then they didn’t want to stay in the traditional dorms and they couldn’t find housing in town so they would leave Steamboat Springs. So this enables students to finish their bachelor programs, have attainable opportunities, work in the community. It addresses a whole bunch of challenges and hopefully makes the community more sustainable.”
JC Norling is the Campus Dean at CMC in Steamboat Springs.
“We’re really excited to open up the apartment style house. We had all the support from the community. We’re here for the community. And this is just one way for us to give back.”
The new building has 35 units with 25 studios and 11 two-bedroom apartments. There are also three ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) units. The students and staff have 12-month leases. It’s full and there is already a waiting list.
The building is on Bob Adams Blvd., on what was the lower Bristol parking lot.
The new building has also not yet been named and staff is working on that.
Housing is also being added to CMC campuses at Edwards, Breckenridge, and Spring Valley.
CMC hosted a reception before the ribbon cutting.
