Colorado Parks and Wildlife has responded to our request about where the wolves are right now. CPW Media Spokesperson Travis Duncan says the GPS data will not be made publicly available, to protect the ten wolves that have been reintroduced in Grand and Summit counties last week. We asked for confirmation of whether the wolves are in Routt and Moffat counties and if any of the wolves have died and his answer was that both issues are “confirmed to be unsubstantiated.”
People have also mentioned CPW helicopters in the area, questioning if that is related to the gray wolf reintroduction. Duncan said the helicopters are conducting annual surveys unrelated to the wolves. They’re placing GPS collars on 75 elk calves this month and also collaring 120 pregnant cow elk in March.

On to the post office…
Some post office box holders in Steamboat Springs have still not received the 1093 form, to apply for a free P.O. Box. People have been letting us know, so we asked the corporate office out of Denver. Spokesperson James Boxrud says even though he was told all had been delivered in the 6,053 boxes here, they haven’t been. He apologized and said he found out on Wednesday. The post office has been busy with holiday mail and packages. The form that you need is a 1093 form. It’s on our website. You can print it up yourself, fill it out and turn it in to the local post office. Jason at the counter said they’re getting about ten a week, and they have a tub full of them to be sent in to the corporate office. You’ll need to attach two forms of I.D. But this is what you have to do to get a free P.O. Box, and two years worth of refunds, if you are paying for a P.O. Box and you have no other way to get your mail. Boxrud says it isn’t necessarily a fast process but they are working on it.

U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert has announced she will change districts in 2024 to run for Congress in Colorado. Boebert will go for the Republican nomination to represent the 4th Congressional District which will be vacated by U.S. Representative Ken Buck who is retiring. She said in a video that she’ll move away from Rifle to run in the district, which includes the rural Eastern Plains, Loveland, Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, and Parker. She’ll no longer be representing the 3rd Congressional District, which includes Moffat and Rio Blanco counties.

Register your pet with the City of Steamboat Springs. It’s a law that all dogs and cats in the city and within Routt County have to be licensed every year and that license has to be on your pet’s collar. That goes for pigs and goats within city limits. Licenses expire Monday, and you have to renew by Feb. 1, at your local veterinarian’s office or Routt County Humane Society. It’s $5 for altered animals and $25 for those that aren’t. And you have to provide proof of rabies vaccination. Residents within the city limits of Hayden, Oak Creek and Yampa require their own city license. Check with town halls in each location for additional information.
