The busy days continue at Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden. Thirteen nonstop flights came in on New Year’s Day, with a load factor of 75% and 1,440 passengers arriving. More folks are now leaving, with planes at a 94% load factor and 1,787 departing passengers.

The Moffat County Board of County Commissioners is holding a workshop Wednesday morning. They’ll be discussing security at the new courthouse. An afternoon meeting will review letters of interest for open community board seats.
Steamboat Fit is opening a second gym location on the west side of Steamboat Springs, in the new basecamp building. It opens today.
The Moffat County Girls Wrestling Team has a roster of 24 girls on the team this year. It’s only the second year for the team which has mostly Moffat County girls, but three girls from Hayden, two from Steamboat Springs, and one from Meeker.
Ashlee Griffiths-Ripka is the head coach for Moffat County Girls Wrestling.
“I’m really happy that Craig picked up and they just ran with it. The school district and everything and all the girls showing up. It’s awesome. They’re so competitive, like, there’s a lot of competition in the room now, which is awesome.”
Abby Martinez is a senior wrestling for the Bulldogs.
“Wrestling guys is a lot different than wrestling other girls, and there are a lot of girls that aren’t willing to wrestle the guys. So it’s nice that they can have that opportunity to learn something new and get themselves out there. Build up some strength and stamina. It would be good for them. I think it’s a good opportunity and any girl should try it. Even if you don’t like it, just try it, and see what works for you.”
Two Steamboat Springs girls will practice with the Sailor Boys team, but wrestle for the Bulldogs. Rocky Worley is a freshman.
“I’m wrestling for Moffat County because they have a better girls program and I just think it has a better opportunity for me with girls and I can go further in wrestling.”
Amanaki George is also freshman from Steamboat, wrestling for Moffat County. Her sister, Adalia George, is the assistant coach in Craig.
“I get to have my own sister who wrestled all four years in high school, teach me and coach me, so that’s really cool.”
The three Hayden girls are Keely Fenhaus, Reagan McMillen, and Kali Walton.
Some of the Moffat County girls used to wrestle with the Soroco Girls team, but now Moffat County has its own team.
They are in Grand Junction for a tournament on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 5-6.
The CHSAA State Wrestling Tournament is Feb. 15-17 at Ball Arena in Denver.
