A 19-year-old man turned himself in Tuesday morning at Steamboat Springs High School, for the damage to the building late Friday night when he allegedly crashed into the building in the car he was driving.
Steamboat Police say driver’s license of Isaac Spahn-Mascarenas says he is from Arvada. But a press release from the City of Steamboat Springs says he is from Craig. He is at the Routt County Jail today being booked on five charges, one of which is Criminal Mischief which is a felony. That’s because of the cost of the damage to the school. The five charges are:
- Criminal Mischief (Felony)
- Reckless Driving (Traffic Misdemeanor)
- Reckless Endangerment (Class 2 Misdemeanor)
- Leaving the scene without providing the required information after striking an unattended vehicle/property (Traffic Misdemeanor)
- Failed to notify police of an accident (Traffic Misdemeanor)
Steamboat Police Corporal Braxton Shirley says Steamboat Springs Police were in the process of getting a warrant for Spahn-Mascarenas when he turned himself in today, which they appreciated, as well as tips that came in.
“The Steamboat Springs Police Department is very appreciative of all tips that were called in. They were very helpful with the investigation.”
Corporal Shirley says Spahn-Mascarenas turned himself in because he said he felt the pressure of seeing his car on the news.
