A 19-year-old man turned himself in Tuesday morning at Steamboat Springs High School, for allegedly doing the damage to the building late Friday night when he allegedly crashed into it in his car. Steamboat Police say the driver’s license of Isaac Spahn-Mascarenas says he is from Arvada. But they are also saying he lives in Craig. He was booked in the Routt County Jail Tuesday on five charges, one of which is Criminal Mischief which is a felony. That’s because of the cost of the damage to the school. The other charges are Traffic Misdemeanors.
Steamboat Police Corporal Braxton Shirley says they were in the process of getting a warrant for Spahn-Mascarenas when he turned himself in.
“The Steamboat Springs Police Department is very appreciative of all tips that were called in. They were very helpful with the investigation.”
Corporal Shirley says Spahn-Mascarenas turned himself in because he said he felt the pressure of seeing his car on the news.
All persons accused of crimes are presumed innocent until and unless their guilt is established beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
