Colorado Avalanche Information Center says to be careful and aware in the backcountry. Avalanche conditions are rated as considerable. You can trigger a deadly avalanche where strong winds drift the recent snow.
Kate Nowak is retiring as Executive Director of United Way of the Yampa Valley. She has been with the local United Way for 11 years.
“I’m just very excited about this new stage in life, and I feel that the last 11 years have been my heart and soul into the community and I know that United Way will continue to be in good hands moving forward.”
Nowak is retiring September 3. United Way of the Yampa Valley will start a national search for her replacement starting March 18.

The Director of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Jeff Davis, is in Steamboat Springs tonight, to be at a discussion called, “Wolves are here. What’s next?” The information session is hosted by the Routt County Extension office, under the direction of Todd Hagenbuch.
“Local partners from Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be presenting the latest information you need to protect your livestock and report losses, and the USDA’s wildlife services will be on hand to introduce you to the tools they have available to protect your herd. Only by leaning on one another and working with wildlife services and Parks and Wildlife staff can producers be successful with this reintroduction.”

Thursday, Feb. 29. is the deadline for paying the first half of property taxes. This is for taxpayers who pay their taxes in two equal installments. The second half is due June 17, unless you pay one big payment which must be paid by April 30. This is not for those who pay through a mortgage escrow account.

The Town Challenge Fat Bike Race is tonight at the Haymaker Nordic Center, hosted by the City of Steamboat Springs. It’s a circuit format on the Nordic trails with advanced and beginner divisions.
