Both downtown Steamboat Springs and Craig have sidewalk work being done.
Phase 2 of the North Yampa Sidewalk Project in downtown Craig begins today. The sidewalks will be replaced on the west side of Yampa Ave. in Craig between 6th and 9th. There will be no street parking during construction.
Also starting Monday, May 6, through Friday, May 17, 8th Street at Tucker Street in Craig will be closed to through traffic. The closure is weather-dependent and subject to change. For questions, call the City of Craig Road & Bridge Department at 970-824-4463.
Concrete rehabilitation work continues on the sidewalks and ramps in downtown Steamboat Springs. Monday and Tuesday, there will be single-lane and parking shoulder closures from 3rd to 5th street. Tuesday and Wednesday have single-lane and median closures from 11th to 13th Streets.
Working hours in Steamboat Springs are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work is expected to be completed in late June.
The Routt County Board of County Commissioners meets Tuesday morning, May 7. One agenda item is declaring the month of May as National Historic Preservation Month. Another item under discussion is approval of a contractor to replace the roof at the Routt County Detention Center, and also adding lightning protection.
Black bears will be the topic of discussion Monday evening in Yampa. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is asking for public input on the Middle Park Black Bear Management Plan, which encompasses parts of South Routt County, and all of Grand and Summit counties. During the meeting, people can learn about trends in the district and provide feedback on the black bear population, issues and conflicts with bears, and management strategies. The meeting is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6 at the Yampa River District, 300 Roselawn Ave., in Yampa.
The Sailor Luau is at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 6. It’s a free event at Steamboat Springs High School to benefit the Booster Club and the Pio Utu Scholarship Fund. Steamboat Sailor Athletic Awards will also be given. The Online Auction is also open, May 1-6, at SailorsAthletics.com Virtual Auction

Prom and After-Prom are coming up this Saturday for Steamboat Springs High School. Volunteers are needed for setup on Friday afternoon and evening, during the night of the event at the high school, especially people with experience with casino dealing. Help is also needed with break down on Sunday morning.

In lacrosse, the #3 seed Steamboat Sailors beat Battle Mountain in overtime to win the league Friday night. They will have a bye in the first round, and then be hosting a home playoff game at 5:30 p.m. Friday night, May 10, at Gardner Field.
The #15 seed Sailor Girls Lacrosse team hosts #18 seed Durango at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Gardner Field.

The Sailor Girls Soccer team is the #30 seed playing #3 seed Windsor Wizards at 6 p.m. AWAY at Windsor High School.
The Steamboat Sailors High School Girls Tennis Team had two-first place finishes this weekend at the regional tournament in Grand Junction. Six girls are headed to state in Colorado Springs this coming weekend. They are Lucia Del Haya, Kelsey Norland, Evan Quinn, Amanda Dietrich, and Leslie Jimenez, and Dylan Quinn.
