Those involved in the shooting last Friday at Cedar Mountain Trailer Park have been identified.
The name of the man who died is 27-year-old Jesus Fuentes Vega of Craig. Moffat County Coroner Jesse Arthurs said in a press release Tuesday that the cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death is homicide. That’s from an autopsy performed in Grand Junction. Results are pending on a toxicology report.
The officers involved are Nathan Baker with Craig Police and Patrol Deputy Connor Pogline with the Moffat County Sheriff’s Officer. Both are on paid administrative leave as is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting. They will be on leave until the internal review is complete. That investigation is being led by the 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Team.

A Steamboat Springs parent is conducting an informal survey to find out when kids should get their first smartphone. Long-time Steamboat Springs High School teacher Meghan Hansen-Peters wants to hear from other parents and she’s created a short survey to gather the information. Her son is about to start sixth grade, so she read a book called The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness. She says the book calls for collective action.
“Because let’s face it, smartphones aren’t going anywhere, and I am curious if people want to either consider delaying smartphones, or are for a lot of our kids that have smartphones, are there things that we should be working on together so that we have more success and just so that all of our kids have a more healthy relationship with smartphones going forward.”
There is also an opportunity to form a small committee to brainstorm ways to engage more families in the discussion.
