A fifth young, uncollared, wolf believed to be from the Copper Creek Pack has been spotted on a game camera in Grand County. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says they will capture it and reunite it with the mom wolf and its littermates and as CPW says, “to prepare for winter release.”

Twenty-six Colorado agriculture organizations are officially petitioning the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission to delay any future introductions of gray wolves into the state. Groups in Routt and Moffat County are represented. The groups want Colorado’s wolf management program to first adequately address the conflicts between wolves and livestock producers.

Local counties are receiving County Security and Accessibility Grants to help with voting systems and locations, to boost pay for election judges, and provide funding for Sunday voting locations before the general election. The announcement is from Secretary of State Jena Griswold’s office from the HAVA funds, which is Help America Vote Act.

- Jackson County – $45,910.65

The community is invited to a free showing of the film “Undivide Us.” The focus of the film is to learn, listen, and create a healthy and civil dialogue within the community, leading up to the 2024 election in November. We are hosting the event with Rocky Mountain Public Media. It’s Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Allbright Auditorium on the CMC campus.

The Colorado Restaurant Association has announced its annual Hospitality Awards (HOSPYS). There’s a long list, Ricardo Tyrell is on it. He is the Back-of-House Employee of the Year and the Line Cook at Salt & Lime in Steamboat Springs. Tyrell is from Jamaica.
“This year I just became a U.S. citizen in April. This really overwhelming to become Line Cook of the Year. I’m really amazed and really grateful.”

The Colorado Proud School Meal Day is today. This is a day that students statewide celebrate Colorado agriculture, which contributes $47 billion to the state economy each year, providing more than 195,000 jobs.
On Colorado Proud School Meal Day, K-12 students eat school lunches made with local ingredients, and talk about healthy eating. It’s held during National Farm to School Month. Those participating in our area are Moffat County High School, Craig Middle School, the Early Childhood Center, and Ridgeview, Sunset, and Sandrock Elementary in Craig.
The free Grief Resource Center opens on Wednesday, October 2, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Steamboat Springs. Northwest Colorado Health is running it. The Grief Resource Center will be open weekly and staffed by bereavement volunteers from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesdays and from noon to 2 p.m. on Thursdays. Community members can find resources and books to support their grief journey or stop in to connect with caring volunteers. There is a private entrance to the library off the alley behind the church.
