Reminders from Routt County Elections Team
Routt County, CO, October 29, 2024 – Routt County is well into election season and our Elections Team has a few reminders for voters:
Expect traffic delays on October 31. Halloween Stroll festivities on October 31 run from 5-7 p.m. with street closures and detours starting at 2 p.m. These closures and detours surround the County buildings, please expect traffic delays if you intend on doing business at the County buildings on October 31 at 2 p.m. or after! This includes our Voter Service and Polling Center and 24-hour drop box in the alley behind the building. If you would like to return your ballot, please consider using one of our other drop boxes that day. We have a second 24-hour drop-off box located 2025 Shield Dr. in the parking lot of the Combined Law Enforcement Facility.
Signature Verification is a part of our election process. Our election judges verify every single ballot. It is never OK to sign someone else’s ballot, not even your college-aged children’s ballots. This is the most common reason for rejected signatures. Even if you have permission from another to sign their ballot, it is not allowed. Every signature that is rejected and remains uncured after the election is turned over to the District Attorney’s office for investigation. Don’t let that be you!
Write in candidates must have filed appropriate paperwork. Write-in candidates are only counted if the person whose name is written in has filed the appropriate paperwork as a certified write-in candidate. This means you cannot write in Snoopy or Scooby Doo or anyone else that has not filed the proper paperwork and expect that to count as a vote for that person.
Please make sure to return both pages of the ballot.
Come prepared if you plan to vote on a machine. There is a 15-minute time limit when voting a machine, and there are people waiting in line. The website has sample ballots and blue book information to prepare to vote in person. The closer we get to Election Day, the longer the lines can be.
The deadline to request a mail ballot has passed. Please visit our VSPC to request a ballot or vote in person.
It’s too late to return your ballot via USPS, but ballot drop boxes and polling centers are open for you.
