Colorado State Patrol will be doing extra enforcement over the Thanksgiving holiday. Last year, on the day before Thanksgiving, Colorado State Patrol troopers responded to 85 crashes caused by careless and reckless driving, lane violations, and speeding. Also, check weather and road conditions. The National Weather Service forecast calls for heavy mountain snow beginning early Tuesday and into Wednesday. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center is also warning of dangerous avalanche conditions during Thanksgiving week, because of heavy snowfall across the state. And because more people are out recreating during the holiday.
Forecast Timeline:
- Tuesday: Avalanche danger will increase to HIGH (4 of 5) in the West Elk Mountains and CONSIDERABLE (3 of 5) in many other areas.
- Wednesday: Snowfall totals may reach three feet in areas like the Park Range, Flat Tops, and Elk Mountains, with two feet or more across most mountains Avalanche danger will likely reach HIGH (4 of 5) in much of the Northern and Central Mountains, and in the western San Juan mountains.
- Thanksgiving: Avalanche conditions are expected to remain very dangerous (CONSIDERABLE (3 of 5)
- Friday–Sunday: While the storm ends late Wednesday or early Thursday, dangerous avalanche conditions will continue as the snowpack adjusts to this rapid load. With clear skies, fresh snow, and the holiday weekend, backcountry activity will likely increase. Special Avalanche Advisories are anticipated.
The Colorado Department of Local Affairs is announcing more grant money from the Energy/Mineral Impact Assistance Fund. The latest in our area is for Kremmling. The Kremmling Memorial Hospital District is receiving $1,154,261 to develop the Wellness Center Resiliency Hub, which will be a physical space to expand community services to benefit the health and well-being of the Kremmling community, now and in the future.

More terrain is opening thanks to seven inches of new snow Sunday and a big storm expected here in the mountains today and tomorrow. Because of all of the snow, upper Wild Blue Gondola and Sunshine Bowl are open as of 9 a.m. this morning.
Sunshine Express, Sundown, Elkhead, and South Peak will give skiers and riders access to six new trails including Upper and Lower High Noon, Spike, Spur Run, and more. The Steamboat Gondola will bring skiers up and down the mountain as downloading from the Sunshine Bowl area is necessary until Heavenly Daze opens.
As of Tuesday, Steamboat Resort will have 18 trails, 10 lifts, and 126 acres available.
Uphill access is still closed. First Tracks starts Dec. 14.

Turkey Bingo was a big hit Saturday at the Community Center. There were 247 bingo players that helped raise $5,900 dollars to support the local American Legion, VFW. And The Veterans Center.
Partners for Youth presents Movie Night for high school and middle school students. The movie is The Wild Robot at West Twin Cinemas in Craig. The movie starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, and it is free with food and prizes.
