The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is meeting in Denver Wednesday. An update on the Wolf Program is in the afternoon, which includes a discussion and vote on putting a pause on the next round of wolf introductions, which could come any day. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says they are against that. Senator Dylan Roberts said this week that it will also be a tough conversation about compensating ranchers for their losses. Claims are over $600,000, which is overbudget for what was planned.
“We’ve seen the claims come in. They are much higher than what the state has allocated and what the state said they needed to compensate ranchers fairly for their losses. If CPW tries to pare that amount down significantly, I think you’re gonna hear a lot of us myself included having problems with that because I think these ranchers have filled out those claims honestly and are probably even undervaluing their losses when you take into account not only deaths but weight loss and fertility loss and then downstream impacts of wolves on the landscape.”
Steamboat Radio News will be at that meeting in Denver Wednesday.

The UPS SurePost program ended nationally on Dec. 31. What that means is that UPS will reject any package with a P.O. Box or an APO/FPO Box. That is mail that might be ordered for someone in the Armed Forces. Those UPS packages are being rejected and returned. This change only affects items ordered from online vendors utilizing UPS services. It does not affect packages from USPS or FedEx.
“If you’re ordering something for like a military service member, and they use the APO/FBO address, if it goes SurePost, it will get rejected.”
That is Steamboat Springs Postmaster, Alex Garza. He says people are coming in to the local post office to complain to the clerks, when the local post office employees have nothing to do with it. He asks, please be patient as this change is affecting 31,000 zip codes simultaneously.
“The addresses themselves are fine. The issue is that the service is gone, the UPS SurePost is gone. So if you order something that says it has free shipping through UPS, that normally would have come SurePost, now that it is gone, they have to use the physical address. Unfortunately it means that these customers really have to work to figure out which way it should be sent because if they do it wrong, it will be rejected before it even comes to the post office.”
If you are using UPS with a P.O. Box, please check with the shipper to avoid any issues.
If something is being delivered to a P.O. Box or APO/FPO destination (military), USPS is the only carrier authorized to deliver to those destinations.
The following article was shared with us by the local postmaster. What’s Really Happening with SurePost?
