Nonprofits in the Moffat County community gathered Tuesday in preparation for Yampa Valley Gives Day next week. Members of Yampa Valley Community Foundation thanked the many community members who were at the Craig Chamber building for a group picture. One of the groups represented was the Humane Society of Moffat County. Here’s Mary Blakeman.
“Today’s event gives us an opportunity to get together with other nonprofits that serve our county and also to raise awareness of what everybody’s needs are and what the Humane Society’s needs are.”

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will start conducting classification and capture flights for deer, elk and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep along the Western Slope this month, through the end of January. Helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft help CPW understand herd health and how recent winters have affected birth and survival rates of elk and deer. Elk monitoring and collaring will happen with the White River elk herd which includes Routt, Moffat, Rio Blanco, Garfield, and Eagle counties.

Prescribed burns will be conducted on Emerald Mountain in the next few months, as weather and fuel conditions permit. All burns will be led by the wildland crew with Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue. There will be a notice on the specific day of the burn and we will let you know, so residents do not call Routt County Dispatch.
