Holt Lemaster is being sentenced in Routt County District Court Friday morning. The 18-year-old pled guilty to 1st Degree Assault for an alleged knife attack on a local pre-school teacher in April of 2024, when she was house-sitting for a family during Spring Break. Lemaster was 16 at the time.

 

Also Friday morning, there is a lockdown drill at Steamboat Springs High School. Families have been notified.

 

Steamboat Springs Police officers are looking for expired vehicle registration tags. No tickets right now, but you will get a festive, holiday-themed reminder on your windshield, to get it done.

The Yampa Valley Gives Rally for Routt County is at noon today, on the lawn of the Historic Routt County Courthouse. Nonprofits in Routt County will be there, with their signs, in preparation for Yampa Valley Gives Day this coming Tuesday, Dec. 9.

 

 

It’s time to mail those packages for the holidays. Steamboat Springs Postmaster Alex Garza has some tips on how to avoid the holiday glitch. That includes packing, shipping, and addressing those packages.

Hayden Town Council has a Northwest Colorado General Improvement District meeting tonight at 5 p.m., followed by a Municipal Housing Authority meeting, and then a regular Town Council meeting at 6:30 p.m.

 

The Routt County Planning Commission meets at 6 p.m. this evening. The meeting is regarding Alpine Mountain Ranch, and an extension of the deadline to remove the temporary sales office building on the property. Agenda

 

 

Dance Showcase is at Steamboat Springs High School, with shows at 6:30 p.m. tonight through Saturday,  Dec. 4-6. Middle school students get in free for tonight’s performance. Doors open at 6 p.m. This year’s theme is Sonder: the realization that every stranger has a life as vivid and complex as your own.

 

A Celebration of Light event is at 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday, Dec. 4) at the Rollingstone Respite House in Steamboat Springs (upstairs at 480 Rollingstone Drive). The hospice team at Northwest Colorado Health will lead the program and candle lighting, which starts at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to light a candle and celebrate the memory of someone you love.  Hot soups and chili will be served. For more information, contact Jo Anne Grace at 970-846-8319. Tonight is the Cold Moon which is a supermoon, set to be at 100% early this evening. The moon will be brighter and look slightly larger than usual, just after moonrise. A supermoon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, called perigee.

 

The Annual KRAI Holiday Drive is Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the west end of Centennial Mall in Craig. We’ll be outside collecting donations for four local nonprofits, including the Humane Society of Moffat County. Here’s Pat Pearce.

“It’s tremendous for us because we receive so much. Folks are so giving here and it really helps us. We depend on donations the whole year through because we need pet food and help people with medical bills for their pets so we’re always needing help.”

 

We’re also collecting for Christmas 4 Kids, and Thursday, Dec. 4, is the deadline to for families to submit a list of what they need for the holidays for their kids. Applications are available and should be dropped off at Connections 4 Kids at 601 Yampa Ave. by 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

In addition to dog and cat food for the Humane Society, and Christmas for Kids, we’re collecting for Christmas for Seniors and the Interfaith Food Bank. 100% of all your donations stay in Moffat County! Head to KRAIradio.com for the Wish List for each nonprofit.

All donations go to four Moffat County non-profits:

  • Christmas for Kids: New unwrapped toys and bikes for kids: Remote control cars and trucks, Legos, baby dolls, baby toys, frozen toys, craft kits, sleds, Minecraft, art kits, basketballs, footballs, Nerf guns, toy tool sets, board games, Hot Wheels race tracks, bikes, sleds.
  • New Unwrapped Gifts for Seniors: Gift cards to City Market and Walmart ($25 each), blankets, slippers, crosswords puzzle books, books (western, mystery, local history), twin comforters, soft big blankets, sweatpants and sweatshirts, pajamas, art supplies, knitting and crocheting supplies.
  • Interfaith Food Bank: Non-perishable foods are needed PLEASE CHECK DATES. Examples: Breakfast cereals (like Corn Flakes or Raisin Bran), Pancake mix and syrup, jelly, canned soup, boxed mac and cheese, canned tuna, canned fruit (peaches or pears), canned vegetables, canned pork and beans, canned spaghetti sauces, spaghetti, saltine crackers, ramen noodles.
  • Humane Society of Moffat County: They are in need of cat and dog food. Please and thank you.

Checks for financial donations can be written to United Way of the Yampa Valley.
